Tretton plays coy over Agent exclusivity
SCEA president Jack Tretton has cast doubt over if third-party Rockstar title Agent is still a fully-fledging PS3 exclusive.

Speaking to GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley, when asked on a no-show of the game last night during Sony’s press conference and when we’d actually see it, he said it was a question for Rockstar.
When asked if it was still exclusive, Tretton said this: “I don’t know where we’re going to end up on that.”
Agent, which takes place at the height of the Cold War in the 70s, was announced as a PS3 exclusive from Sony’s E3 press conference two years ago by Tretton.
The title, being made by Rockstar North in Edinburgh, hasn’t been seen other than just a logo.

Let’s be honest, once GTAV gets announced, no-one will care about Agent…even if the prospect of R* North working solely on PS3 is an enticing one.
Also…didn’t Pat write a story at E3 09 saying he was told Agent wasn’t exclusive?

Seems like Sony may have yet again pulled funding, just like with LA Noire. Its sort of understandable when R* seems incapable of producing anything in so long. Especially when all rumours point to Rockstar North working on GTAV rather than this.

I know how far fetched that rumor is @6, as I believe thats B.S too, but just reporting rumors related to this article.

@7 as you should, but I think that Sony has dropped the ball again, this will have a VGA reveal, to be for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and perhaps Ps Vita

@2 anyone who pulls funding on R* is retarded…which just further proves that Sony is a joke of a company in the gaming market…even though I recently bought a ps3 I’ve had a 360 since 06 or 07 and will continue to prefer games on there…so hopefully this report is right and ill be able to get Agent for my 360 and not have to worry about missing any exclusives if another massive hack occurs that they mishandle terribly…

Sony really dropped the ball with 3rd party support exclusives.
All they get are cheap PS1 or PSN games with the package or exclusive missions.

Anyone expecting full exclusivity from a third-party developer at this point is just fooling themselves. Who, in their right mind, would ignore/piss off 50+ millions of potential customers by committing to either camp? Especially R*, who enjoy healthy sales on both formats…

@12 Correct. Its all ‘exclusive betas’ and DLC these days. Not like back in the PS2 days.

@12 +1 Totally agree. 3rd party *exclusivity* nowadays means one platform waits a little longer than the other for release or dlc.

I still think it’s been canned completely.
/awaits almost instant reveal, like last time he predicted that about a Rockstar title
I’d agree with the last few posts – the generation hasn’t been ‘won enough’ to support 3rd party exclusives in nearly the same capacity as last gen. Rockstar are big enough to be calling their own shots now, and if they decide this is multiplat then I doubt there’s much Sony can do about it.

Saying Sony is stupid for loosing Agent as exclusive and not doing funds anymore is stupid in itself. Sony most likely have seen Agent and know what it’s like so that’s when they decide yes or no. LA Noire is a great game, a system seller though? I’m not sure.

@12 @13 @14.
Exclusives are still plentiful, and for huge titles too. How about five of the biggest developers/publishers (and some of the biggest franchises) in the world?
Epic (Gears of War)
Valve (Left4Dead)
Ubisoft (Splinter Cell)
Square Enix (Final Fantasy)
Konami (Metal Gear Solid)
ALL console exclusives THIS gen.

@16 Agree. Not to mention how much R* would demand from Sony to make it exclusive. There’s just no point in blindly give money for a project when you have no idea on what foot it’s standing on.

@TheBlackHole:
You do have a point, however, if you carefully examine your own examples, you’ll see that maybe they do not hold much water.
Epic (Gears of War)
The GoW agreement goes back to the early days of x360 and, as far as I know, covers the current trilogy. Things may change once GoW3 is released.
Valve (Left4Dead)
Valve’s allegiance to the x360 was rudely interrupted with Gabe’s appearance in Sony E3 conference last year and Portal 2.
Ubisoft (Splinter Cell)
With the arrival of Splinter Cell’s original Trilogy on the PS3, who’s to say what the future of the franchise may bring.
Square Enix (Final Fantasy)
It’s been a long time since we heard any concrete info on Versus and since FF13 was released on the x360 as well, a similar fate should not be ruled out.
Konami (Metal Gear Solid)
Konami is bringing the MGS HD collection to the x360, as well…
