Rumor: StarCraft MMO "likely" thanks to World of StarCraft mod popularity

An industry insider who recently visited Blizzard headquarters says that the firm is "committed to enhancing shareholder value through residual monthly fees," with StarCraft.

The insider said that the firm is looking to create a StarCraft MMO, and that the project is separate from the other Blizzard MMO in the works, Project Titan.

According to a report on GameFront, both the popularity of the StarCraft universe and the excited reaction of fans to the World of StarCraft mod, Blizzard has been "put into a position where a StarCraft MMO would be too financially lucrative to pass up."

The firm is supposedly also taking into consideration World of Warcraft's age, and is looking to reap the benefits of the continued SC popularity.

Blizzard has said its MMO project, Titan, would be its next "big thing" after Diablo III releases, but once again, the insider told GameFront that the SC MMO talk has nothing to do with it.

Recently, the firm posted a job listing for an “Unannounced Game Title” and was looking for “a creatively minded and talented individual to serve as tools engineer," for this title.

No word on what that is exactly, but things sure seem to be getting rather interesting over at the Blizzard compound.

Hopefully, more will be announced at BlizzCon later this year. In the meantime, we'll send a mail.
