Guilty Gear rights back in developer's hands

Arc System Works seems to have recovered the rights to the Guilty Gear series.

Siliconera reports Arc System Works has filed a trademark for Guilty Gear, which would not be permitted unless the developer held the rights.

The rights had been held by Sega Sammy after the two companies combined; Sammy held them prior to the merger.

Arc System Works is also responsible for another respected 2D fighting series - BlazBlue.

There are four core titles in the Guilty Gear franchise along with multiple portable incarnations and revisions. The most recent release in the series was the Xbox 360 exclusive Guilty Gear 2: Overture. Aksys and 505 are among publishers that have brought some entries to the US and Europe.

Series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari recently commented on the possibility of a new Guilty Gears title.
