Shigeru Miyamoto honoured by Japanese government

Japan's Ministry of Education and Science has awarded legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto in its annual Art Of Encouragment ceremony.

Gamekyo (French, auto translated) reports Miyamoto was to receive the award - which apparently included an awesome rosette - on March 17, but the event was pushed back following Japan's earthquake and tsunami disaster.

Miyamoto is said to have appeared quite moved by the ceremony.

In case you've somehow managed to miss this, Miyamoto is responsible for an eye-opening number of Nintendo's best-loved franchises - Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Pikmin, Star Fox, and Super Mario Bros., to name a few.

He is reported to be working on a third entry in the Pikmin series.
