Super Mario 3DS will skip out on StreetPass

Friday, 6th May 2011 16:10 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Shigeru Miyamoto has said the Super Mario title he is working on for 3DS will skip out on StreetPass unless “a spectacular idea comes to mind.”

Speaking in an interview with The Telegraph, Miyamoto said the title will also feature motion controls, using 3DS’ built-in gyro sensor instead of a second analog controller.

“Sometimes people ask why the 3DS isn’t double stick,” said Miyamoto. “One is normally used to control the camera, but having the gyro sensor, you can replace the analogue stick by moving the console, which is very intuitive.”

Not much is known regarding the title, other than it is being described as a cross between Super Mario galaxy and Super Mario 64, but E3 will remedy this in June.

even Shigeru doesn’t have a clue regarding what to do with streetpass, “fun while you’re not looking (TM)”. nice! and using the gyroscope as a second stick must be the worst idea ever – to have a better look at the action I have to actually move away the console? on a console that has its main selling point on a feature that requires you to be in a precise spot in front of the screen? that’s the very definition of ‘retarded’.

@1 it’s because he’s a thick prick and Nintendo are so stupid, they ruin everything like they have with every system they have made. The main selling point of 3DS is excluded from this feature, how lame. I suspect he is coming down with some nasty illness. Well a man can dream lol

    Good work nintendo!
If nintendo doesn’t use the features of its new console who the hell will?

I really think that 3ds was made in a hurry…

Streetpass really isn’t all that great anyway. I can see why he is choosing to skip out on it. I’m sure the gyro part on the game will be optional, like it is going to be in Ocarina of Time 3DS and also Star Fox, so I’ve got no worries.
