The PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be released in not only boxed form, but on Steam as well according to the lovely press release that just hit our inbox.

Eidos-Montreal said it had “chosen this agreement with Steam because of its esteemed capability for an enhanced experience for the PC gamer, with boosted functionality and easy accessibility.”

The game will also host Steamworks features such as auto-updating, Achievements and Steam Cloud support in both the standard and Augmented editions.

You can also pre-order the standard game on Steam at special limited-time pricing of $44.99/£29.99 and $53.99/£39.99 for the Augmented Edition.

The news here is that if will use Steamworks, not that it is on Steam. Not every PC game on Steam uses Steamworks, but those that do feature things like cloud saving and steam achievements. They also need to be activated on Steam even if you buy a retail version.

All games on Steam auto-update btw.

It is great news btw, it means that you can buy whichever version is the cheapest (retail, D2D, gamersgate etc etc) and you can still use the key to activate it on Steam. And as far as DRM goes, Steamworks is the only one that gamers don’t mind at all as it’s not intrusive and brings many benefits with it.

Steph, change the headline already it should be “Deus Ex: Human Revolution to use Steamworks” like I tried to explain in my earlier post. You misread the press release.

@1

I think the revelation here is that they’re using Steamworks, which is wonderful, as opposed to Games for Windows. I’m very happy about this.
