Report – Sony delivering new SDK kits to developers
Sony’s sent out new software developer kits to developers following PSN’s collapse last week by hackers, according to Gamasutra.

The site’s reporting that Sony has asked developers to install the new SDK on PS3 dev kits ahead of the network’s return within the next week.
The new update will supposedly “provide new security features” following the personal data breach that was confirmed by the company on Tuesday.
Gama’s sources insist that it hasn’t been told to when it should specifically expect PSN to return.

This needed to be done when Hotz published the root key months ago.

If this was indeed through CFW as rumours claim, then I put ALL the blame on GeoHot for telling every hacker how to root their console, he should be grown up enough to know that the world isn’t kind & nice & there are indeed tonnes of malicious hackers who’ll exploit his work for ‘evil’ & others who just do stupid things to others ‘for the lulz’, he’s either completely ignorant of his actions or just doesn’t care & is lying.
Tired of all of this hacking BS, all I want is an exact time when PSN comes back online.

Every console and electronics device is cracked in months after it hits retail. That isn’t supposed to effect your network if it’s properly secured.
Infact you’d asume before hand your hardware will be cracked and act acordingly to make sure it doesn’t matter.
If all of this really was due to custom firmware Sony diden’t do their job properly.

Good call. Instead of doing this and add to security instead of putting all its money and effort on just the lawsuit. I’m not saying that the lawsuit was wrong or right but it shouldn’t have been the only action Sony had taken.
Add this to the almost non-existent points of “What Sony did Wrong” in the recent VG247 article. Seriously, that was too defensive of Sony.

Not every cracked console results in root key leaking. Most hardware modders use disk drives as a means to piracy and other stuff. But DVD/BD drive wasn’t the source in PS3/Hotz case.

Why do you assume they only take one move at a time? You make it sound like sony is only one man. And if he is being a lawyer he can’t be an engineer? Obviously the lawsuit was public but you can’t hardly expect they’ll let you know every time new code is written, thats best kept in the background. Besides since the exploit didn’t they released a new firmware within days? And couple more after that. Hackers do what they do and sony will release new firmware and sue them. What else is there?
On your second point, what world are you living in? iphones, nooks and galaxies have been rooted days after it hit the market. Its the sign of the times. Nothing these days is 100% secure, unfortunately.
