Mortal Kombat reviews round-up: Bloody, good, sadistic

Review for Mortal Kombat, which was released in the US today, have started going live, with the first, and so far, two perfect scores being handed to it by GiantBomb and G4TV. Get rounded-up below.

The new entry in the series is out on April 21 in Europe, and so far, the reviews are rather good for the gore-filled fighter.

We’ll add more as they pop up.

Hadoken.com 9.5/10
Game Informer 9.5/10
GamePro 9/10
G4TV 10/10

Just shows you how IGN gives out lower scores to games that don’t allow them to release early embargo breaking review a week before others.

IGN has always been shady. Well, since they got big anyways. Rarely do you read a review from that site and dont see a hint of bias or favoritism in the article.

I will not remain silen… IGN IS THE BEST. NO BIAS. THIS POST IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY IGN AND GLADOS.

I’m still amused that IGN increased their font size for the sole purpose of making their reviews shorter. Not that they’re reviews were any good to start with.

Has anyone read the IGN review?

I was able to write better than that in high-school. Jesus Christ.

So true but it’s not just that one. Quality of IGN reviews has declined a lot in the last 4-5 years. Right now, I mostly trust Joystiq and GiantBomb (Though the latter is a bit on the MK fanboy side but that’s ok with me :) ).

I’ve been playing MK all weekend and it’s the best MK since Trilogy.

@12 Definitely. The only complaint I have is that the women all look too similar, but that’s REALLY minor. Gameplay is rock solid old school MK. It could use a little more on the Kombos side of things.

@13 Agreed, specially the semi ninja ones (Mileena, Kitana and Jade). Hopefully they have more unique alternative costumes.

went and bought it last night. Im half way through the story mode and i love it. The gameplay is addictive, really is. My only complaint is the graphics. It looks really out dated. other than that, best MK in a long time.

Rented it. Played it yesterday. I think i’m at the last stage, but i don’t think i’ll finish it. If’d give a fuck, i’d be probably frustrated at this. But i’m just getting to old for that shit. I woudlhowever call the gamedesigners lazy fucks.

I have yet to see a fighting game with a boss that is actually fair and not cheap. I mean seriously, every hit takes like 40% less damage. The X-Ray takes only 15% off his lifebar. His X-Ray takes 40% of yours. His normal attacks can break your chain-attacks without any problems. Lazy design at it’s best.
