Gamescom 2011 exhibitor numbers up 20% on 2010

Gamescom's organiser has said the current number of registered exhibitors for this year's show is up 20 percent on the same point last year. Plus, the trade and consumer event will welcome Mexican exhibitors with a new country-specific pavilion.

In a press release on its website the Cologne-based games show has announced:

"The countdown is on. Four months before the start of the largest international trade fair highlight for interactive games and entertainment, gamescom is reporting a successful interim result," the release states. "After the industry already sent very clear signals in February as part of the early booking special, interest in the industry highlight taking place from 17 - 21 August continues unabated."

The release also made note of the "pleasing trend" that has seen many exhibitors increase the size of their exhibition areas.

Elsewhere, previous host of the event, Leipziger Messe, has announced it will not be going ahead with its own Games Convention Online event in 2011, citing a lack of funding as the culprit for its closure.
