Over 1 million players register for Battlestar Galactica Online 

Bigpoint has announced that in six weeks time, Battlestar Galactica Online, based on the SyFy television series, has accumulated over one million registered users into the game's open beta.

The free-to-play, browser-based space combat MMOG was also graced with new ships: the Viper Mark VII and War Raider. Additionally, new Cylon Tier 2 and Tier 3 ships have been added, and players can spend Tylium to acquire these new ships.

“There is always a risk when you translate a well-known IP into another medium,” said Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder, Bigpoint. “We built what we believed was a recipe for success; a fantastic gaming experience inspired by an iconic show, with the added benefit of being a free-to-play title. Through 2011, Bigpoint expects the number of players in Battlestar Galactica Online to continue to grow, ans recently updated its Unity game platform to Unity 3.3. This upgrade improved the overall stability of the game and enhanced the game's special effects and graphics, providing ships with better textures and reflection-based shaders.
