First cinematic trailer for Risen 2: Dark Waters has pirates, muskets, Voodoo priestess

Thursday, 14th April 2011 16:10 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Voodoo, pirates, eye-patches and fisticuffs. That’s what you’ll get with Risen 2: Dark Waters, apparently, and this pleases us.

While the video posted below doesn’t show any gameplay, it is intriguing nonetheless.

The Piranha Bytes-developed sequel stars our hero who is working for the Inquisition in order to find a way to stop monstrous sea creatures from damaging shipping traffic and with it the island’s supplies. The pirates know how to stop the beasties, but are being largely uncooperative. Of course, we have never heard of a cooperative pirate in the history of piracy to be fair.

One of the new features with this installment in the Risen series, is the ability for players to make use of firearms and dirty tricks, which will allow players to distract or confuse enemies. Voodoo magic also plays a vital role in the game, as you can see in the CGI trailer.

While there is no set release date for Risen 2 at the moment, publisher Deep Silver expects it to land this year on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

    Here is hope for a fluid and completely revamped combat system.

    For a super small studio very nice trailer.
    Anyway, what PS3 owners will do after missing first part? Of course… Half-ass port.

    @1, “Am i playing the One-Eyed Pirate?”

    No ass. You are playig your old character.

    @2: I don’t understand how it’s my business that you have no ass. But thanks for the information. If you consider that none of the people in the trailer are the main character, what’s the point of it? I mean it is cool, but it seems like it’s trying to tell us something here.

    I’ve been after a good open world Pirate themed game ever since Bethesda released Pirates of the Carribean back in 2004.

    Hopefully this one will deliver :)
