Lewie’s Weekly Deals – Total War: Shogun 2, pre-owned consoles, more

Monday, 11th April 2011 06:50 GMT By LewieP

The only thing better than getting new games is getting new games without having to spend a fortune. Here’s my selection of the best cut price gaming deals available right now, scoured from all corners of the internet, so you can have your digital fun and still have cash left to spend on more frivolous things. If you want more cheap games, SavyGamer.co.uk is the home of bargain gaming for the UK. Read on for the deals.

Might & Magic: Clash Of Heroes, DS – £4.95 delivered
Very well received puzzle spin off of the long running RPG series for the DS. There’s a trailer of it here, and it looks great. I particularly like the 16-bit RPG aesthetic. If you’re interested, but would prefer to play this kind of game on a big screen, you’re in luck because it looks like this game is coming to XBLA/PSN in shiny HD this week too.

Braid, Mac – £2
Apply coupon “kapow”.
At this price this modern classic is a must have for any Mac gamers out there. Braid is an elegantly designed puzzle platformer that gives the players all sorts of different challenges based on different kinds of interactions with time. It’s eureka moment after eureka moment, as the puzzles gradually build on what you’ve previously learnt. It looks and sounds beautiful, and was deservedly heaped with praise at release.

SimCity 4 [Deluxe Edition], PC – £2
Apply coupon “kapow”.
SC2000 was one of my favourite pastimes in my formative gaming years, but none of the followups have ever grabbed me in quite the same way. You’ll have to battle a somewhat dated interface to enjoy this one, but the buildings still look lovely. The Deluxe edition includes the Rush Hour expansion pack.

Preowned console deals
GAME have have got some cracking offers on their preowned consoles. These are preowned, but come with a 12 month guarantee. It’s always a gamble getting a used console, but these savings are pretty significant. The offers are:
PS3 60gb fattie (PS2 BC) & Read Dead Redemption – £149.99 delivered
PS3 60gb fattie (PS2 BC) & CODBLOPS – £159.99 delivered
PS3 120gb slim & Read Dead Redemption – £189.99 delivered
PS3 120gb slim & CODBLOPS – £199.99 delivered
Xbox 360 20gb & Splinter Cell: Conviction – £69.99 delivered
Xbox 360 20gb & Crackdown 2 – £69.99 delivered
Xbox 360 Elite 120gb & Red Dead Redemption – £99.99 delivered
Xbox 360 Elite 120gb & CODBLOPS – £109.99 delivered
It’s worth noting that CEX sell the 60gb, 120gb and 250 gb Xbox hard drives for £15, £25 and £45 respectively. You could always get the cheaper 20gb console, buy a larger drive separately, then trade the 20gb drive into Gamestation for a fiver via CEX pricematch.

Deal of the week
Total War: Shogun 2: Total War, PC – £15.98 delivered
Registers on Steam.
This seems to have been well liked all round, but despite having only been out for two months it has already got a nice discount. £16 represents a saving of 47% compared to the Steam price (already at “25% off”), and since it’s a rather huge download, the convenience of getting the game on a disc is nice too. Sega tend to be slower than most to discount their digital games, but even if it goes on half price on Steam next weekend you’ll not be too much out of pocket.

Also of note:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, PC – £3.99 delivered
Battlefield 1943 – 600 MS Points (Gold members only)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam – 600 MS Points (Gold members only)

Remember to keep your eye on SavyGamer.co.uk for gaming discounts throughout the week, and you can hassle me on twitter if there’s ever a specific game you’re after for cheap.

Amazing how Shogun 2 has been on sale all over the place. Hardly surprising for a such a poor outing from Sega/Ca. Such a shame its probably the worst of the series
