Report: New Xbox Dashboard beta being issued today

A new Xbox Dashboard is apparently doing the rounds, although you’re not missing very much.

Joystiq reports Xbox 360 users who have opted-in the Microsoft’s beta program have received an updated dashboard.

The new interface contains a dedicated beta program blade, with three areas, one of which is inactive.

A “Help and Tips” section notes beta testers who receive the update online, as opposed to on disc, will receive a free copy of Halo: Reach in return for participation at a later date.

Microsoft announced the update beta program in September.

Clearly those who selected “physical” media when applying for the beta will have stuff mailed out to them.

I have no particular love for the Live dash, but the XMB is hateful.

It did not say that the LIVE Update group will get the disc at a later date, you people read the notes wrong. One group gets the update through the Reach disk (DISC Update group) while the other group gets it through Xbox live (LIVE Update group). It says the disc group will be testing how their xbox updates through using a disc instead of LIVE. It says the LIVE update group will not test updating through disc because they received the update already through live, but will still receive the disc. It doesn’t say anything about receiving the disc at a later date.

That makes sense, they’ll eventually have to get the update to non-connected people too so it’ll have to work equally well from disc or ‘net download.

Interested to see what people make of the new disc format once it’s in the wild. Hopefully Digital Foundry or someone got in. :-)

The best Xbox dash I’ve ever seen is the one where you get the “some content not available” error and the only tabs are My Xbox and My Friends. Fucking ludicrous that I can’t customise and get rid of all the pish that just gets in my way.

Not a huge fan of the Xbox dashboard, i don’t like the XMB either. None of them float my particular boat :P
