Red Faction Battlegrounds now available on PSN, Live on Wednesday

Red Faction fans on Sony’s Playstation 3 console can now download the newest game in the action shooter franchise, Red Faction Battlegrounds.

Publisher THQ has announced that top down vehicle shooter, from UK-based Digital Warrington, is now available on the Playstation Store for $9.99.

If you became a member of the Playstation Plus program before March 25, the game is available for the low price of absolutely nothing at all. Xbox 360 owners can download and purchase the game on Wednesday via Xbox Live for 800MSP.

Battlegrounds serves as a kind of prelude title to Red Faction: Armageddon, the upcoming third-person shooter from Volition. It’s releasing for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 31.

Sounds interesting. By Top down shooter, do they mean its like an old school shooter? Like Raiden or something?

Saw a vid. It’s a 3d top down at a angle. Small maps, frag fest. Reminded me of Mashed, but on Mars… without the racing.

Or Dead Ops Arcade in Black Ops. Sounds kinda weak for Red Faction game.

For free, im still getting it. I was a huge fan of the first Red Faction. Played 1v1 with my pal for hours. We had rules on, no attacking each other until our “tunnels” were done. Loved burrowing through the walls with guns all day hahaha. They haven’t made a game that captures that fun element for me since though.
