Next Minecraft update “soon”, wolves and achievements inbound

Minecraft creator Notch’s latest blog post has highlighted the contents of the next major update.

Promised “soon”, the update adds in the promised wolves, movable spawn points, a staistics tracking system, and achievements.

Mojang will then turn its attention to the neglected mod API, a feature much requested by the community as the game’s frequent updates currently break most mods.

Can we please stop calling him Notch? He’s no longer a bedroom developer, and he has a real name.

I keep going back to Minecraft every other month. It’s easily the most relaxing game I’ve ever played. Looking forward to 1.4.

@3 I know what a pseudonym is.

I just think its silly to still be going around calling such a successful bloke by an Internet nickname.

It’s not like we sit around calling Jonathon Blow “Blowy” or something.

@4 Yeah, fair enough, but as long as the guy chooses to go by Notch, we don’t get to argue.

We also don’t insist on calling Lady Gaga whatever her name is, or Elton John whatever his name might be. Nor do they want you to. If you choose to use a pseudonym when you create something, then it can be a pretty convenient way of maintaining some semblance of personal identity, instead of making your own personal name part of a brand.

Persson might be Notch when he’s dealing with the Minecraft monster, but to his friends he’s still Markus. Having worked in entertainment for a short time, I have no problem relating to that.
