Blue sky no longer - Cutlack shuts down UK Resistance

Gary Cutlack's UK Resistance has shut down, the site's just announced.

"It’s time," said Cutlack, speaking as Zorg.

"Or rather, it was time about three years ago and we have only just got around to making it formal. I’m going out. Might be some time. Save me a few of those Sonic The Hedgehog pasta shapes, if they haven’t gone rotten inside the tin. Thanks for everything, everyone. It’s been character defining."

UK Resistance based its editorial on hating Sony and loving Sega. It was founded in 1996.

UK Resistance was acquired by Shiny Media in June 2007, before being returned to the sole ownership of Cutlack in June of 2008 in lieu of money owed.

UKR won the first Best Blog GMA in 2007.

Cutlack was also nominated for Best Writer In Specialist Media at the same event.

UKR has been, by turn, one of the funniest, creepiest, stupidest games sites online. Its influence is without question. To the glory days: we salute you.

Patrick Garratt is a games media legend - and not just by reputation. He was named as such in the UK's 'Games Media Awards', the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. After garnering experience on countless gaming magazines, he joined Eurogamer and later split from that brand to create VG247, putting the site on the map with fast, 24-hour a day coverage, and assembling the site's earliest editorial teams. He retired from VG247, and the games industry, in 2017.
