Cyanide working on Song of Ice and Fire RPG

French website Factor News has posted news of a Song of Ice and Fire RPG in the works from developer Cyanide Studios, based around A Game of Thrones – the first book.

Already hard at work on the RTS Game of Thrones: Genesis based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novels, the RPG contains original stories with new characters instead of focusing on the main character’s in the series.

However, the characters includes in the novels will appear in the game in some capacity.

Players will step into the shoes of a brother of the Night Watch up at the Wall, before playing as Alester Sarwyck, a Red Priest coming home after a 15 year exile.

It’s a turn-based RPG with skill trees and real-time battle.

While there’s no set release date, it is expected for consoles and PC.

Meanwhile, Genesis will be out this summer.

Thanks, Joystiq.

I dunno if I like the idea of directing troops in battle in an RPG. I just don’t have the patience and I don’t want to “think” when playing a game sometimes.

But I do like the idea of the turn-base style combat sort of like The Witcher, and being able to set up your skillset.

I hope we meet Rhaegar. And I sure as hell hope the story is good, otherwise someone will have to pay for it.
