Nintendo confirms Amazon 3DS pre-orders are double Wii's pre-orders

Nintendo has confirmed Amazon's claim that 3DS pre-orders are double that of Wii's when it was first listed in 2006, which held the retailer's record for most pre-ordered console at the time.

The news was confirmed to Lazard Capital Markets, which then confirmed the information to Industry Gamers. Lots of confirmation going around, then.

Amazon UK said last week 3DS pre-orders were 20 percent more than PS3 had by March 2007,  and 56 percent more than Wii. Pre-orders for the handheld were also 255 percent more than DSi.

Earlier this week, the retailer said 3DS pre-orders were now 71 percent higher than PS3′s.

With pre-orders in the UK hitting 140,000, Nintendo expects the console sell over 200,000 British units this weekend alone and despite the overwhelming popularity, doesn't expect there to be any shortages in stores.

3DS launches in the US on Sunday.
