Android in-app purchases coming next week

Google has announced it will launch in-app payment options for Android apps next week.

Venture Beat reports the company's mobile division has been testing the service for several weeks, and will allow apps to opt-in to the system shortly.

In-app billing will allow freemium titles like Farmville to release free clients and have players complete micro-transations in game, or to try free demos and upgrade to premium versions without leaving the game.

Apple has allowed in-app purchasing for iOS applications since mid 2009, but recently promised to look into monitoring systems after a ruckus over Capcom's phenomenal earner The Smurfs' Village.
