Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls coming to US, EU PSN

The latest title in the Japanese-developed lineage of the Wizardry series, Labyrinth of Lost Souls, has been picked up for Western release.

Gamespot reports Xseed Games has secured the game's US and European distributing rights.

The series' first outing on PlayStation 3, Labyrinth of Lost Souls is the product of Tenchu and Way of the Samurai developer Acquire.

The game features distinctive hand drawn-style sprites from Yuki Hayabusa, 120 enemies, and parties of six composed from five races and eight classes.

Xseed intends to distribute the digital-only title via the PlayStation Network in Northern spring. No word on its sequel, Torawareshi Bourei no Machi, which was released in a double pack with the first one on the Japanese PSN.

The dungeon-crawling, D&D-inspired Wizardry franchise is famous among aficionados for its genesis in poor cultural translation.

The light-hearted, satirical originals were received in Japan as deadly serious fantasy treatments, and series development split into core Western releases and massive numbers of Japanese-developed spin-offs and tie-ins - plus a cross-media merchandising bonanza.
