Battlefield 3′s hand-to-hand combat shown off at C2E2

Presentations at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo have revealed new snippets of intel on Battlefield 3, including the scaling down of the console versions and improved melee gameplay mechanics.

CERFY spoke with DICE representatives at C2E2, and confirmed that the PC version’s 64-player maps would be scaled in size for the console player limit of 24.

Well, except for planes; airborne players will experience full size maps bereft of infantry no go zones.

During a closed-doors demonstration, DICE showed off Battlefield 3′s rapid hand-to-hand combat. Onscreen prompts gave the demonstrator various options during close-quarters combat, allowing for left and right punches, counters and throws, rather than the usual single strike seen in many shooters.

Battlefield 3 is the first core entry in the series since 2005, and will release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 late this year.

Thanks, M.K.

Wow, that (CERFY) article is a serious trainwreck.

That sounds really cool though. Added airspace for jets and detailed hand to hand combat. The hand to hand stuff is obviously a singleplayer feature, but it sounds good.

I’d like to see some balanced air combat so it’s not just air to air all the time like it would often turn out in the previous ones.

The last bits are just drunken gibberish though.

I kinda hope they do the knife/melee attacks like in BF2 where it was a slot selection :)

Please no auto-knife.

Worst idea in modern gaming.

that CERFY piece was so badly written I couldn’t bring myself to read further than the first few lines. Well done for summarising.
