Resident Evil 4′s camera had its genesis in Onimusha 3

Friday, 11th March 2011 01:55 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Shinji Mikami has commented that if it weren’t for certain flaws in Onimusha 3, Resident Evil 4 could have been a vastly different game.

Although there’s little doubt the Resident Evil series – known in Japan as Biohazard – would see another sequel, Resident Evil 4′s dramatic changes were partly inspired by the much-critiqued slice-em-up.

“If only the camera was behind the player, it would have been so much better,” Mikami told Shack News, speaking of Onimusha 3.

“That stemmed the idea for creating the camera system – the [third-person shooter] style – in BioHazard 4.

“Probably if Onimusha 3 had been better, I wouldn’t have thought of BioHazard 4,” he concluded.

Thanks, D’toid.

Two of the bestg last-gen games you troll. Go to your 360 and leave comments for games that are vastly superior to everything that is comming nowadays to people who actually understand gaming.

A third-person camera would have been great in Onimusha 3, no more getting hit from outside of the screen so much.. Although Ninja Gaiden didnt really fix that problem either :S

Would love to see another Onimusha tho :)

Ummm #2 first off chill out it was a joke and second I own and beat both of these games several times in the perfect era of gaming the PS2 days. the fact is this isn’t news….its more like olds :D Anyone with a brain figured this out back when they played and or compared these two games both made by capcom. I remember being in a debate back around this time RE4 released and saying the PS2 version was superior to the Gamecube version and it jumped off to the topic how Capcom should have been incorporated that cam in its games.

Sooooo yeaaaa like I said this isn’t news its olds

@3 do you have proof to back your statement sir ;)

Lets not Forget that Resident Evil 4 isnt a PS2 game homies. It is a Gamecube game first and thats where it was the best. The gamecube version had perfect Frames Per second and was vastly superior in graphics compared to its PS2 port. It only became 2nd best after the Wii version came out and its controls were glorious and with 480p. PS2 version still sits in 3rd place with PC version being forgettable.

I thought they were atrocious. the fighting was so ridiculously repetitive, and the amount of it was so excessive. the stories were uninspiring and dull.

I also hated how they went with the prerendered backgrounds for the first two games, as if they just took Dino Crisis 2, and made it into a boring buttonmasher with generic samurai crap.

I liked a few moments here and there, like some funny dialogue, with bosses but they were nothing to write home about.

previous Capcom games were just so much fun.
