Braben: Not doing Elite IV “would be a tragedy”

Thursday, 3rd March 2011 07:48 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Frontier boss David Braben has said at a GDC panel that plans for an Elite IV are still in the pipeline.

When asked at a post-mortem on the original Elite if Elite IV was still a “thing”, all Braben would say on it was that “Yes. It would be a tragedy for it not to be.”

News on Elite IV has been on and off since 2009, with the most recent report from last year saying the game was on hold.

Thanks, EG.

Well, being a huge fan of the series I can agree, but… he really needs to do something, and soon. And it better not be an MMO.

Here are a few tips, David:

    1. Don’t make it like Frontier.
    2. Don’t make it like Frontier.
    3. Seriously, don’t make it like Frontier.

Why do sites give this guy the time of day? He’s done nothing of note since Elite.

First Encounters (aka Frontier II, aka Elite 3 for the unintiated) came out in 1995.

    That was 16 years ago.

Stop pissing about, Dave. Stop cock-teasing us by mentioning it every other year and then disappearing into obscurity.

Sixteen years, damnit! Just do it already!

Hm. Doing Elite IV might also be a tragedy. Considering Frontier, I seriously doubt that Braben could keep up with Elite’s spiritual successors which have taken the genre to new heights.

I think that David Braben, don’t have the bloody money, to create Elite 4, or didn’t have the money to produce Elite 4, or doesn’t have the money for publicing Elite 4…. but 16 years gheez, thats a time-line…

I love that game, when i was a kid, but times flies… i have doubt about Elite 4…. but better late than never….
