Sucker Punch unveils inFamous 2′s player creation suite
Sucker Punch’s “big secret” has come to light – inFamous 2 is to sport a suite of user-generated content tools. Get inside for shots and video.

Joystiq reports the tools, which allow users to create custom maps and share them, will go into public beta in April.
Details on how to join the beta will be released on March 14 through inFamous 2′s official website.
In a post on the US PS Blog, development director Chris Zimmerman elaborated.
“We thought inFAMOUS 2 would be better if it didn’t end—if you never ran out of missions and mini-missions to play and things to do. So… we spent the last two years adding a User-Generated Content feature to the game,” he said.
Users creating missions will have access to all the game’s characters, props and enemies, allowing vanilla inFamous builds, but will also have the ability to make entirely different mission types.
“Wish [inFamous 2] had pure stealth missions? No problem, you can create stealth missions.
“Looking for more of a challenge? Try taking away some of Cole’s powers—see how the player does facing a platoon of Militia wielding only his Amp.
“Or add an old-school platforming challenge, or a race, or… I could go on all day. … Skeet shooting? No problem. Disc golf? Assuming you’re happy tossing around cars instead of Frisbees, sure. How about a mission where Zeke just tells you bad jokes until you shoot him? Um, yeah, you can do that, too.”
User-generated missions will appear in-game as they are created in the same way standard missions do, while popular and highly-rated missions will be featured by Sucker Punch and pushed out to all players.
With the addition of the new tool suite, Sony has folded inFamous 2 into the Play, Create, Share label, alongside LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers.
The tease
Sucker Punch had earlier teased a “big” announcement, with general chatter suggesting it could be inFamous 2-related, in a Facebook status message.
“Today is very exciting day. We’ve been holding a big secret for the last two years and at GDC later today… We get to tell you all about it.”
Fans hoped for an official reveal of Sly 4, but Sucker Punch burst that bubble immediately.
“OK. Everyone, no, a Sly 4 announcement is not the secret. Sorry to disappoint some,” a rep added in the comments.

competitive multiplayer would be disastrous – loads of cole’s running around OR loads of people with powers?! either way it doesnt make sense
its gotta be an innovative co-op mode with upgradeable powers where you can play as the ice or napalm girl OR cole etc

Sony doesnt have to own the studio to own the rights on an IP. Same goes for Ratchet, Heavy Rain & Gran Turismo; Sony owns all of those IP’s despite the devs not being owned by Sony.

Multiplayer in Infamous 2. You heard it from here.
Looks like they are trying to do everything that ND did with Uncharted 2…

Firstly Suckerpunch has already stated the Xbox 360 is not powerful enough to play infamous
secondly it is an EA partners multiplatform title
thirdly it could be competitive or cooperative multiplayer
Fourthly: Cole skins of: Nathan Drake, e3 Cole, game informer Cole, sly cooper, etc

59?
They said that? Well that’s just dumb as hell, cause of course it’s possible on 360. I see no reason why inFamous 1 and 2 couldn’t be on 360. That’s just some unnessecary nonsense.

Like most, I can’t see this being anything other than a co-op/multiplayer announcement.
@53 PD (Gran Turismo) is owned by Sony.

@59, ofcourse people will say Infamous cant be ran on the Xbox, which is so not true.
Also I think your EA Partners title is pure speculation. But it makes sense. Lets just wait till the EA conference is done too see.

But those people being Sucker Punch, i mean they aren’t owned by Sony, so why say this stuff? I don’t get it. Nothing about inFamous was ‘not possible’ for Xbox 360. Graphically it was just ok, nothing groundbreaking and while inFamous 2 looks nice, it’s really still not ‘omfg’ material.

Seems the secret is a feature after all: user-generated content for inFamous 2.
Apparently Sucker Punch will cherry pick the best creations — think shooting galleries, platforming challenges, etc — and integrate them into the regular campaign somehow.
There’s going to be a Beta in April, sign up info coming March 14th.
(Somewhat ironically this announcement means inFamous 2 genuinely couldn’t be done on the 360, given Live’s policies on such things.)

^Yup, Kotaku’s got a preview of the feature – http://ca.kotaku.com/5773867/infamous-2-will-have-in-theory-an-infinite-number-of-levels-thanks-to-you
Note, I used the ca.kotaku link which means you won’t have to bear the horrible new design.

Ok thanks, but it doesn’t matter for me. Personally i strongly believe it’s possible on 360 cause again i saw nothing in the first one (and i doubt its with the second one) that had me going ‘nah, this ain’t possible on any other console than PS3′ .
If the developers really took the time and effort for a 360 port, it could easily work.

@72 That’s not “proof”. That’s a developer sucking their publisher’s cock.
This “percentage of power” horseshit is just marketing crap.
Any current game could be feasibly done on any of the existing console formats if you just peel away the quality of the graphics a little.

Eh.
Not a fan of user generated content personally. I barely have time to PLAY through all my games, let alone create my own content.

sounds neat but I agree with Dr.G although I will give it a try. I still have LBP2 in the plastic for crying out loud. Poor LBP2 I don’t even see people on my friends list playing it and I have people on there who do have the time to sit there all day to make user created content.
Anyway it still is a cool feature and makes the game well worthy of $60.

“This “percentage of power” horseshit is just marketing crap.”
Indeed. The thing is, it’s not even *recent* marketing crap either.
Fanboys have been verbally garotting each other with ‘Percentage of Power’ ever since the PSOne days.
It’s nothing new and by proxy, folks should know better rather than try and spin that sort of shit in a debate.

Sorry but this game at least for now looks miles ahead technicaly from it’s predecessor
It can be done on 360,Wii you name it.but they won’t look and play the same.Going by the facts we’ve already established that developers can squeeze a little bit more out of the ps3 if they are paid well enough and want to that is.
@73 They’re exaggerating obviously but there’s some truth and sense to some extent from what they’re saying
