Sony: Profitability more important than beating MS
There aren’t a whole lot of dilemmas that can’t be at least partially solved by the phrase, “But I’m making tons of money.” Don’t believe us? Let’s test it out. Sony, take it away.

“So do we pass Xbox 360? At the moment, I think we’re trying to just keep up with inventory and trying to move as many units as we can through the channel. It’s also one of those things where, do we notice what Microsoft is doing? Obviously, they are our competition. But is it like we surpass Microsoft or we fail? No,” PlayStation software senior brand manager Scott McCarthy told IndustryGamers.
“Our goal is to be profitable and we’re going to achieve that this year and do even better next year,” he added.
“That’s been Nintendo’s position for years. We have a very aggressive plan this year. And when we’re profitable we’re happy. If we happen to close the gap with Microsoft in the meantime, then that’s good too.”
So, the console war? It’s more of a minor console altercation in which everybody wins and then awkward, a-bit-too-long hugs are exchanged afterward. Now then, can we stop verbally assaulting each other about it?

Consoles war is good mostly to fanboys. PS3 has so many good exclusive games and contents, that if you go by the sales number, go out and by a Wii (#1), all you’ll get is a handful of good games, period.

So basically the division still isn’t profitable six years after release?!
I thought they were making a profit ages ago.

He didn’t say that, just that it’s something they are going to achieve this year.

So when they pass Microsoft they won’t be crowing about it, right? They’ll be like, “no, no, it’s not important, no comment, we want to be profitable”?

dri1097, thats right all the consoles have great games, i own the 3 and my stack pile of games for each console is about the same 60+ games per console, therefore i believe that anybody could enjoy each console based on its catalog. By they way the Wii right now has a strong list of quality games, but this year will not top last year though,i hope e3 show some surprises like pikmin 3 and F Zero wii.
One thing that impresses me is that sony is taking nintendo as something to follow, at least in the profit department, i think this will be good for sony and for gamers alike.

I dont see how the PSN devision could be profitable this comming year. The immenent price drop on the PS3 along with the hacking and most importantly the New NGP comming out is going to have to sell at a huge loss. It aint cheap launching new hardware.
