Minecraft to get iOS edition this year

Majong’s Markus Persson’s confirmed to Gama that Minecraft will get a release on iPhone and iPad later this year.

The ports are being done by a new addition to the team at Majong, Aron Neiminen. Persson says that iOS version won’t get every new update the browser or download version will have, but instead get features that “make sense.”

This is the first time there’s been an iOS version, although there have been unofficial versions.

There’s more on the release through here.

Curious to see how they do this given that it’s written in Java.

Awesome!

… but only if I can use the worlds from my PC on my iPhone/iPad.
Going by the quote, it probably won’t work …

@1 Apple last year started opening up to support more development platforms. Not sure if Java is one of them but it could be.

they just allow Flash now, as well as stuff like Unity3D.

@Blerk if it was done in Java (I haven’t even played it) then rewritten obviously, btw Java to Obj C and vice versa is easy enough, since they share enough design similarities.
