Gears of War free with Games for Windows version of Bulletstorm

Not I, thanks! Still – there have to be some people who enjoyed Gears of War despite it being a poor port, despite having to suffer with GfWL, and despite there being better entries into this genre available on the PC already (in my opinion at least).

But hey, someone had to have dug the original Gears of War, but if that’s the case then they’d probably already own it, wouldn’t they?

What was the purpose of this marketing exercise, again?

I think the whole GfWL thing is blown out of portion. Sure, it’s not Steam, but it’s still a functional service and in some cases I even prefer it over Steam since I do play on consoles, too, and happen to own an Xbox Live account. It’s not about the service itself, it’s about the people you know in that service. In that regard I can understand some PC-only gamers who don’t like it, but otherwise GfWL is OK, imo.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could link any service we want to our favourite games, at least on some level, in order to connect with friends?

I’m generally ignoring them now. They bring nothing of importance to any thread/news discussion aside from their childish views, immature and blinkered perceptions.

All 3 platforms have them and, in all honesty, they are all as bad as each other. Maybe we should put them all in a locked room and see who wins?

Now, to the news post.

The updates to GfWL have come too little to late to the party. Steam/Impulse/Gamersgate/Direct Download are already so far ahead that MS’s attempt should just be stopped. GoW1 on PC really was a bad port from the consoles, not that it was any good anyway.

Giving it away for free with Bulletstorm isn’t really an incentive to buy it really.

The Gears of War IP is nothing more than a meatheaded, brainless shooter aimed teens. I mean, this is the 360/PS3′s demographic:

The thing about couch/younger gamers is that they have a short attention span, lack patience and demand immediate gratification. Also, they can’t take challenges, solve puzzles. Everything is dumbed down for them.

It’s not surprising Gears of War didn’t go down well with the PC demographic, such demographic want more from their games.

I’m a PC gamer and I loved Gears. It’s just overly silly and fun. Don’t take it seriously.

GFWL lost the pc crowd day 1 when they tried to force a Live subscription for online play. Basically asking for £40 a year to play Gears of War for the majority. That shit didn’t fly and nothing has flown since.
