Gears of War free with Games for Windows version of Bulletstorm

Friday, 18th February 2011 03:14 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Purchase the Games for Windows version of Bulletstorm next week, and you’ll receive a copy of the original Gears of War gratis.

The deal runs from release day through March 8 for US customers, and saves you the $19.99 price tag on the third-person shooter.

People Can Fly are backing the PC version of Bulletstorm strongly, saying it will make your rig “weep“, and following up with a bombastic trailer.

Bulletstorm releases next week and has just opened for preorder on Steam.

Thanks, Joystiq.

    But who’d want it?

Not I, thanks! Still – there have to be some people who enjoyed Gears of War despite it being a poor port, despite having to suffer with GfWL, and despite there being better entries into this genre available on the PC already (in my opinion at least).

But hey, someone had to have dug the original Gears of War, but if that’s the case then they’d probably already own it, wouldn’t they?

What was the purpose of this marketing exercise, again?

I think the whole GfWL thing is blown out of portion. Sure, it’s not Steam, but it’s still a functional service and in some cases I even prefer it over Steam since I do play on consoles, too, and happen to own an Xbox Live account. It’s not about the service itself, it’s about the people you know in that service. In that regard I can understand some PC-only gamers who don’t like it, but otherwise GfWL is OK, imo.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could link any service we want to our favourite games, at least on some level, in order to connect with friends?

Give me Gears Of war 2 and Gears Of war 3 Microsoft then we can talk.

I’m sorry, Gears Of war 1 is the worst Epic product.

sorry gears of war and epic games are garbage game devs! You but their today and tomorrow they will treat like garbage!

Even their forums has turned into a console fanboy website.

I think epic games go stick to Microsoft and consoles we don’t need them. They can go kiss up to Microsoft soft all they want.

@8 One of these days, you might realise that responding to the trolls just provokes them to post even more, cluttering up the thread with even more crap than if they were simply ignored.

@11: Just because i’m responding to them doesn’t mean i take them serious. I couldn’t. Seeing as how VG247 doesn’t really care for a healthy community.

notice it’s about pc gaming in a pc gaming thread. I mean these console trolls or fanboys should stick to their console news

console fanboys are nothing more than cooperate worshiping suck ups.

@14 If you feel that way, why post at all?

The community would be just fine if the supposed grownups just ignored the trolls.

@17: I just don’t understand what’s so difficult about kicking some of them trolls, is all.

@18 And I don’t see what’s so difficult about ignoring them.

If you’re interested in ignoring them that much, check the Ignore Users Hack thread in the forums and see if you can help out.

PC fanboys are nothing more than pirates worshiping suck ups who are killing the industry .

    @18

I’m generally ignoring them now. They bring nothing of importance to any thread/news discussion aside from their childish views, immature and blinkered perceptions.

All 3 platforms have them and, in all honesty, they are all as bad as each other. Maybe we should put them all in a locked room and see who wins?

    Now, to the news post.

The updates to GfWL have come too little to late to the party. Steam/Impulse/Gamersgate/Direct Download are already so far ahead that MS’s attempt should just be stopped. GoW1 on PC really was a bad port from the consoles, not that it was any good anyway.

Giving it away for free with Bulletstorm isn’t really an incentive to buy it really.

The Gears of War IP is nothing more than a meatheaded, brainless shooter aimed teens. I mean, this is the 360/PS3′s demographic:

    i.e. little fucking brats…

The thing about couch/younger gamers is that they have a short attention span, lack patience and demand immediate gratification. Also, they can’t take challenges, solve puzzles. Everything is dumbed down for them.

It’s not surprising Gears of War didn’t go down well with the PC demographic, such demographic want more from their games.

I’m a PC gamer and I loved Gears. It’s just overly silly and fun. Don’t take it seriously.

GFWL lost the pc crowd day 1 when they tried to force a Live subscription for online play. Basically asking for £40 a year to play Gears of War for the majority. That shit didn’t fly and nothing has flown since.
