Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood leads BAFTA nominations
BAFTA’s announced the full list of nominations for this year’s game awards, with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood leading the charge with seven.

Black Ops and Red Dead Redemption both missed out on being nominated for Best Game, with Brotherhood, FIFA 11, Heavy Rain, Limbo, Mass Effect 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 all fighting for the award.
Rockstar decided to opt out of the event back in December.
Black Ops and Heavy Rain follow Brotherhood in the nominations count with six nods. Mass Effect 2 is up for five awards with Limbo nominated for four.
Nominations for the new Social Network Game category include FIFA Superstars, Bejeweled Blitz, Farmerama, My Empire, Zumba Blitz and Zoo Mumba.
The event will also be streamed on IGN on March 16 as well as the official BAFTA and gaming BAFTA websites.

Really surprised Black Ops and Red Dead Redemption missed out on Best Game. RDR even more so.

Me too. FIFA 11 gets nominated for best game but RDR doesn’t? It’s noticeably absent from every category except the GAME award. Very odd.

Oh yeah, that’s alright. Completely forgot. Rockstar opted out of the awards so that’s why RDR hasn’t been nominated. I’m assuming it’s in the GAME Award for some other reason.

Hold on a second – is it not the case that the publishers *pay* around a grand to have their games “nominated” into certain categories? If so, did Ubi simply pay more money to nominate Brotherhood into more categories?
I’m assuming Rockstar didn’t “opt out” of the awards but simply wouldn’t pay to be “opted in”.

Some very odd choices and omissions in there. Money changing hands certainly looks like a viable explanation.

Handheld category is hilarious. No Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Dragon Quest IX or Peace Walker. Hmmmm…

I liked ACB, but no real technical innovation there!
Same with BLOPs, how about reach?
Can’t comment on the other 3, but I beleive they all use the motion gubbins.

Black Ops will likely shit over everything else since the zombie massive don’t know any different.

Although I totally agree with Assassin’s Creed being so dominant, because it was an awesome game. Red Dead Redemption should most definitely have been on that list for best game, and I’m also surprised it didn’t even get into the action genre or story for that matter.

Heavy Rain should win every category it is into. A really GREAT game no matter what you say and no matter its (big) defects.
It’s strange Castlevania: Lords of Shadow music isn’t nominated… It’s easily the best OST of 2010.
