Report – First Halo re-releasing on November 15
It looks as though the rumored Halo: Combat Evolved remake is indeed headed for release, presuming inside sources are correct.

According to a Joystiq source, Halo 1 has been given a visual overhaul with new art assets and will be released during the holiday season for Xbox 360.
The source said the audio from the game has not been touched, the engine it’s running on is something other than the one used in Reach, and the controls will be similar to “recent Halo configurations.” It is also expected to support 1080p and 3D televisions, with online co-op “likely,” and multiplayer details still being worked out.
It’s rumored that Saber Interactive are doing the revamp, but Joystiq were unable to get confirmation of this.
Halo: Combat Evolved is expected to hit on November 15, which is around the anniversary of the original release on Xbox.

Ah, so it’s more like a Halo HD revamp than a hard and fast remake. Makes sense if it’s the 10th anniversary of them game.

I’ve never actually played Halo 1 single-player. My Xbox-owning pal always used to make me play multiplayer so that he could kick my arse.
If they’re doing a hard-and-fast rejig then they should make it a Halo 1 and 2 tag-team combo.

I don’t really see the point… It is a classic game but im sure time could be better spent elsewhere, isn’t the original already on XBOX live to download anyway? Buy the time this is out, you’ll be able to pick up Reach second hand for about a fiver anyway…

Probably wont buy this… but if it’s impressive enough from a technical standpoint they might be able to persuade me otherwise (mostly for the sake of nostalgia).

OMG i think its gonna use 343 industries engine, and its says on joystiq that the game is using new art assets not the same ones as bungie’s Halo 1.

@9: I’d rather see a patch that finally gives me the chance to play KuF: Heroes on my 360. I picked this game up for 5€ four years ago and can’t play it

i really liked halo 1 (best halo game imo) and i would def play this but srsly??
Are 343 so creatively devoid that their first game is a remake of someone elses?

I am very much interested but i agree with Blerk.
This should be a Halo 1 and 2 combo. If they plan on releasing this “revised version” of 1 game for anything over $19.99 US then they can really bug off.
If they decided to do a complete graphical overhaul of both 1 and 2 and released it as a combo pack i would gladly spend $40-$50 on it.
If it is an HD collection (like PS3s) where the same graphics are just resized to an HD resolution, then i’ll spend $25-$30 on it, sure.
But just Halo CE…i dont know if i would buy it by itself.

I don’t think it matters much who makes the game, the design and gameplay is already made. All they are doing it code and art by the sounds of it.

i dont get what ppl complain about.
all the hd collections on ps3 are mostly done pretty well and they are a perfect opportunity to get to classics u eventualy missed out. Dont know why this should be different. MS saw that those collection sell loads for the work they have to put in and now they cathc up. Good stuff imo
In no way its a rippoff. U dont have to buy them, do u?

@2 Kratos lopping off Master Chiefs head? I don’t get it.
What’s it supposed to symbolise? They’re *both* weak franchises, with gameplay mechanics that have been outclassed by a dozen other developers and games over the years.

Which games in your opinion have outclassed Halo on the 360? I can only think of Bad Company 2 as a online fps i’ve enjoyed more on a console. I think the forge feature on Halo3 / Reach was and is still revolutionary for a console FPS.

Mike you can’t outclass gameplay. Its either tolerable and playable or its not. You really get ahead of yourself sometimes with your views on gameplay.

To quote David Jaffe:
“[...] Games like Bayonetta- blows the doors off GOD OF WAR. They are SUPPOSED to! In GOD OF WAR our goal was to get the player to feel like they were on an adventure that was easy to play, had cool scenarios, puzzles, platforming, etc.
“The goal was NEVER to be some amazing combat simulator. Your reaction proves my point: you may not LIKE GOD OF WAR but you don’t even stop to think that perhaps there are other goals and ways of doing things, not JUST the ones you like.
“And if you look at the GOD OF WAR sales compared to those games you mention, clearly- at least from a sales standpoint- we did something right”

@26 First of all, I want to clarify that I’m referring only to the core mechanics of a game. The stuff that happens when you’re in the core experiences, pressing those buttons to control your avatar on screen.
I can appreciate the important and impact of stuff like Forge, but that’s a topic for another time. Halo’s core gameplay is fairly weak. It’s only the feature that sit *around* the gameplay that holds it all together.
Shooters better than Halo: Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Bioshock, Portal, Half Life 2 and Episode 1 + 2, Section 8, And if you want to include third person shooters, Vanquish and Uncharted 2 are pretty damn amazing as well.
As for God of War… pretty much every single spectacle fighter game ever made has better gameplay mechanics than it does.
@27 Are you serious?
Gameplay can go from bad, to tolerable, to good, to exceptional. I really don’t think you can simplify it into “good or not”.

Yeah, he’s right. Jaffe did everything alot of western developers are doing these days, copy an existing classic Japanese game format, put a western spin on it, rebrand it, make it more attractive to a teenage american audience and release reliable yearly updates. And by the sales figures, it sure does work. Resi has now been toppled by Dead Space, Devil may Cry and Bayonetta by God of War and im sure there are other examples. It’s just a pity games like Bayonetta and Vanquish are selling so badly compared to rehashed FPS war games…

@28 At least Jaffe admits it.
Jaffe’s argument has one small problem though. Nearly every single one of these spectacle fighters has an “easy” mode, and some even have “automatic” modes, where the game practically plays itself.
I don’t want a game that’s just “easy to play”. I want a game that *can* be easy to play (because I don’t actually have a problem with casual gamers who just want to enjoy the experience), but *has* the depth that allows it to go further.

The hook for me in Halo, and it’s something i don’t think i’ve experienced in any other FPS games is the epic feeling of shooting combined with unarmed melee combat. Maybe it’s just me but the feeling of running towards a Brute/Elite Soldier while machine gunning the shit out of his armour then clubbing him in the head with the stock of your rifle to deliver the final kill never seems to get old!
i’ve never heard anyone mention how simple yet effective this gameplay mechanic is, and it almost gives the game a combo like system, especially as enemy sheild parts fly off as your shooting them. That coupled with the fantastic AI systems they hjave really do create a unique experience. The stock mechanics have been bettered, ie, slow moving characters, not being able to aim down the sights etc… but in a way, this is all part of the Halo charm!

? no other game has had unarmed combat?
Doom 2
Duke Nukem 3D
Call of Duty
Medal of Honor
Killzone
F.E.A.R. (relies on unarmed combat)
are you serious when you say lies like that?

I’ve played all those games, while the unarmed comabat is okay in them, nothing really comes close to the “feel” of melee in Halo. It becomes a tool you have to master rather than just a tacked on ability (the knife kills in COD can be fun, but mainly end up annoying in MP). Bad Company 2 has quite a “weighty” melee kill in it which is more satisfying than Call of Duty. Killzone 3 looks to have picked up considerably in this area too. Halo’s shooting and melee combo just seemed to be most memorable too me! Especially in co-op where you can charge in a save a teammate with a well timed pistol whip!

Halo 1,2,3 ODST, Reach and Wars, thats 6 Halo games, spread over 2 Consoles over 10 years… Sony are just about to launch Resistance 3 (all 3 have been on PS3, also a PSP game), thjere have been about 4 Killzone games etc… Mario games are released pretty much weekly on Nintendo machines…
Christ, get with the fucking program, it’s a popular franchise, of course there gonna make as much cash as they can out of it… Same as every other developer… hey lets check the NGP’s line-up… A Killzone game, an Uncharted game, A metal Gear game, Monster Hunter, wow, big suprise, there all sequels and you’ve prob played them a million times before… Sequels and remakes sell… Do you see?

I don’t quite get what you mean MO’C, when giving examples like HL2, Portal or Bioshock.. the single player campaign? apart from ODST I don’t think it was supposed to be that important in any Halo game.
and I don’t get the tps comparisons, ie the Vanquish one, especially since that game mechanics are quite simple, yet elegant.. much like Halo actually.. BF is too different to compare btw.. it’s like saying Super Mario was outclassed by PoP Sands of Time.. that’s bizarre.
also, someone seemed to imply God of War copied Dmc.. it didn’t. they borrowed the whole concept from 2002 Rygar Legendary adventure. the game is almost a complete copy but bigger and better.
anyway, Saber.. are they serious?
