Japanese hardware and software charts Jan 24 -30: The Last Story and PSP reign supreme

Media Create has released its sales charts for Japanese hardware and software for the week of January 24 - 30, and it finds Mistwalker's The Last Story debuting in the top spot as was expected by anyone with a pulse. PSP continued to be the hardware of choice for the periods, thanks to the debut of Valkyria Chronicles 3 and a game about having a little sister on the system.

Debuts dominate the chart's top 10

The top ten spots on the software chart were dominated by new releases for the reporting period.

Mistwalker's lovely RPG The Last Story moved 114,722 units its first three days at retail while SEGA's Valkyria Chronicles 3 moved 102,779 units in just four days. Namco's My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute moved 88,493 units proving virtual sisters are more popular than real ones, and Dragon Age: Origins took the sixth spot on PS3 , moving over 42,000 units.

All in all, there were a total of 12 debuts for the top 20, with seven taking up spots in the top 10.

PSP continues to dominate thanks to software offerings

PSP maintained its throne for the period, and while not still riding the Kingdom Hearts wave from the week prior, it caught a new one with Valkyria Chronicles 3 and the aforementioned little sister title. Thanks to having nine titles on the software chart, Sony moved 34,648 PSP units for the week. PSPgo moved a paltry 280 units, and PS3 was the dominate home console on the chart as it moved over 25, 000 units.

The debut of The Last Story wasn't enough to keep Wii out of third place, but the game was only out for three days during the reporting period, so these figures may go up next week. DSi LL was still the best seller for the DS family of handhelds, and was just a few hundred units shy of the 12,000 mark for the week which is surprising considering 3DS is set to launch in Japan this month.

Sales of Xbox 360 were up over the prior week, thanks in part to software debuts for Dragon Age: Origins and Gal Gun.
