US PSN update, January 18 – Mass Effect 2, Spare Parts, PS Plus offers
The PlayStation Network has awoken from its holiday slumber with what can only be described as a vengeance. The downloadable version of Mass Effect 2 takes centre stage, and PS Plus subscribers have access to a free trial of the Commander’s second batch of adventures.

Report: Activision says closing Black Ops PSN servers may be “viable”
In response to ongoing connection issues and vocal customer criticism, a spokesperson for Activision has reportedly told an angry PlayStation 3 owner that the publisher may shut down Call of Duty: Black Ops’ PlayStation Network servers.

Dream Drop Distance “prologue” to Kingdom Hearts series finale
Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has said the recently detailed 3DS title Dream Drop Distance will be the “prologue for the final battle” now that the franchise’s plot is “moving towards the last phase of the story.”

Pachter: 3DS will outsell PSP2 as Kinect outsold Move
It’s never too early to begin another round of console wars, even when one side remains unannounced. Industry analyst Michael pachter has said the 3DS will outsell the PSP2, and called the coming battle “Kinect vs Move all over again”.

Black Ops infographics reveal staggering numbers
Two Call of Duty: Black Ops infographics have turned up, one showing off the simply phenomenal amount of time we’re pouring into this game, and the other comparing the game’s performance against other Wii releases.
If there is a better method for comprehending large numbers than slapping some graphics and coincidentally similar figures on it, it is a mystery to me. Hit the break to have your mind expanded.

Rumour: Next iPod to feature 3D display
