Sony working with devs to bring digital versions of UMD games to NGP

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai has said the firm is currently in negotiations with various developers to bring digital versions of already released PSP games to the new NGP system.

Speaking in a round table interview with Watch Impress, Hirai said owners of a current PSP will be able to redownload their titles onto NGP if still within the download number limits outlined by PSN.

As well as digital downloads, Hirai said packaged games for the system will be released via custom memory card format with a rewritable space so users can save and download data, similar to ones used with DS.

General memory cards will also be supported, according to a Sony representative, and in its current form, NGP will not support video output.

You can read more on this over on Andriasang.

NGP was announced earlier this week, and currently there isn’t a confirmed price or release date – more was promised at E3 though.

Not supporting video output is pretty stupid IMO.

Why do I have this feeling Sony will sell a overpriced proprietary hdmi connector that connects this PSP2 to the hdmi input on the tv?

I’ll wait for NGP “slim”. I want video output.

Sony may have a propriety video out cable for the NGP.
Would be awesome comparing the quality between the NGP & PS3 though, seeing how technically capable the portable is next to it’s big brother.

Why is video output important on a handheld which has its own screen?
Neither the 3DS nor any nintendo handheld ever had video outputs but no one seem to complain.

@8, Every Nintendo portable game would be an eyesore on the large screen, the 3DS maybe passable, but i’ve got the feeling that the 2D mode won’t be much of an improvement over the original PSP.

@8 because if you don’t have time/space/room for a PS3 it’d be ideal. How many Japanese didn’t buy the original PS3 because it swamped their dinky living rooms. How many students keep having their gadgets stolen from digs/halls etc. Both solved by a portable that you can then plug in to a TV

Isn’t video output valuable to critics?
Sites like Giant Bomb have to go through all sorts of chicanery to capture footage for their quick looks. HD out would solve this.
