Next PSP is “Next Generation Portable” – all details, first videos

Sony has just announced its “Next Generation Portable” at a Tokyo press event.
The device is literally codenamed “NGP”. This was the first official image. You can get the rest here.
A trailer was shown displaying the machine’s concept, including the words “Play Life” and “The Power is Now in Your Hands”.
The machine was shown to have, as previously rumoured, a 5-inch OLED screen and dual thumbsticks.
It has SixAxis movement controls and front and rear cameras, as previously reported.
It’s to have 3G, WiFi and GPS, front and rear touchpads and an electronic compass.
Sony claimed the handheld is to have PS3 quality graphics. Games were shown for the system, including Uncharted, LBP, WipEout, Resistance, Broken, Reality Fighters and more.
Sony also demonstrated the machine’s new user interface. Titled LiveArea, it’s said to be user-friendly, touch-based, and features a feed that shows what your friends are up to. In addition, there will be an application called “Near” that lets you find out what other gamers in your general area are up to. For instance, if you’re on a train, other players can take a peek at what you’re playing.
NGP will ship later this year.

This is day 1 buy for me regardless of price. They cinfirmed exactly what I wanted built in 3g. Do you guys not understand what that means? Oled screen 2 analog nubs and built in wireless internet and you guys are bitching about a hindside touch pad? Are you fucking kidding me?! Talk about ungrateful dicks! We have everything we could possibly want in this 1 handheld device and already people are knocking it?
3ds > psp2? No fucking way! Atleast the psp2 will more then likely give you instance access to you ps3 library at home on the go! This is EVERYTHING I wanted psp2 to be!!!!

Hey I want the Device too…But don’t give into Gimmicky touching…Give me the Damn option to play with the Analog Sticks if I want. Don’t Make me Finger its Front with One hand and Finger its Back with the other one!!!!! Fine if others enjoy that kind of play, but I want my good old fashioned Control Sticks!!
Like Sony saying..Well Nintendo has 1 touch screen, we are going to have 2! One Front and One back.
I hope the Back of the Unit is raised so if you lay it down on its back it doesn’t scratch the Back Touch Screen up…
And NO STYLUS, so there is No way in HELL I am letting any Kids with Grape Jelly Fingers and Booger Fingers Near the Device!!!

That’s a good-looking machine. The sticks look much better than the PSP’s nub, and it’s nice to see it using flash-based media rather than those horrible UMDs. Unconvinced by the rear touch-panel, though – would need to have a go with that to see how it feels.
All that said, I smell… expensive!

Ok, this is already better than the 3DS in my eyes. We all know it’s going to be pricey, but right now, I just know I have to own one.

Whoever commissioned that second video needs a good sacking. They probably blew hundreds of thousands of pounds on that sack of shit.
@29, dunno if Cartridge is the right word, They’re probably gonna be tiny little SD card type things is my guess.
