New Rage shots show killer visuals

As a celebration of the launch of the new RAGE site, Bethesda just put out a trio of new screens from the shooter, showing off some lovely-looking polygons. Take a look at them below the drop. The game, id’s first new IP in 15 years, releases in 2011 for PC, PS3 and 360.

Game could breath a bit of life into the fps genre when it comes out.
Like the idea of cars being in the mix.

It looks like Fallout’s world with Fable’s characters. Not that that’s necessarily bad, I’m actually pretty curious to see how this plays out.

Not at all impressed. The first shot actually looks really good but the other 2 are just meh. The best part of the screens is the dynamic lighting.

You really should have seen it at the Eurogamer Expo.
Honestly the build that they had on display was seriously fucking jawdropping and much further along than any other footage released up until that point showed us.
The annoying thing was though that ID asked for EG to turn off the cameras while the demonstration was on :/
But really, I thought the same thing as you – not really impressed from the screenies – but seeing it in liquid, gorgeous, hyper-detailed motion is an entirely different prospect altogether.

Is it really? Or is that just speculative…Kinda like Crytek saying Graphics for Crysis 2 will be new benchmark on console….
@7
Ill take your word for it then. This isnt on my must buy list yet and these screens actually made it drop a little on my list, but if what you say is true…maybe its back up there again. I’ll have to wait and see when more HD footage comes out.
Did you see console or PC build. I dont think my PC will handle it where my PC stands now. It runs Crysis and Crysis Warhead at max settings at 50-55fps….Might get this on 360 as i heard id was having trouble with the PS3 version.

The version that they had on display was the 360 build and it was sublime.

@7 I can vouch for @6: it’ll 60FPS from what I saw in France.
And to add to it, it looked amazing. This’ll definitely be a day one buy.

Seems like 360 will be the way to go then….But just to make sure…where did you stand on the visuals for Halo Reach. I played it first on my 720p 42″ LCD and i was somewhat impressed and then i just recently played through it on my new 55″ LED 1080p 240hz (only payed $250 for it hahahaha…actually got it for free considering i sold my old TV for $400) and thought the graphics were average at best while others praise it as amazing.

I pretty much agree with you there. Halo Reach has always looked ‘Functionally Attractive’ to me if you know what I mean?
I’m running it through a 42″ 1080p Samsung and while it has the odd impressive effect, it didn’t exactly blow my socks off; probably in part due to the psuedo-HD resolution that was used.
I’m not sure I would call the graphics on Halo: Reach amazing though.
RAGE however is in a completely different ballpark entirely and if one game could ever lay claim to squeezing every last drop of graphical horsepower from the 360, RAGE would most certainly be it.

OK, good. Basically my thoughts on Halo Reach also…
Adding RAGE to my must buy list now. I havent got to try the game but if its anything like Borderlands, ill be a happy gamer.

Wasn’t their a story about this being 2 discs for the 360, single disc for ps3? Can’t see Id struggling with ps3, that sounds like bs.

Funny you should mention that actually since when they opened up the presentation to a Q&A for the crowd, th every first question that was asked was ‘What is the status of the PS3 build?’.
The reply which came back from Tim Willits was that PS3 build is neck and neck with the 360 build in terms of completeness and there is no performance disparity between the two outside of ‘swapping a disc’.
So yeah, I would concur that the truth may have been twisted a bit through Chinese whispers

@17 and 18
Yes…this was a year back. It was all over gaming news sites and in a Game Informer focused on Rage. Rep from id Specifically said that 360 version would be superior as its architecture resembles a PC more and that makes it easier to build for. They didnt say the PS3 version would be bad, just that they are sure the 360 would be the superior version as its easier for them to build for…. Sad news, i know, i love my PS3 and enjoy it more than my 360 and would prefer it on PS3 BUT if it does release better on 360, i will buy it for 360.
But at SG, if thats what they said at the presentation….then maybe they finally fixed the problems they might have been encountering during the earlier building stages. If so…PS3 it is. I just want the version that is best, if there is a considerable difference.

I completely agree with you.
My PC doesn’t have a hope in hell of running it like I would like, so i’m hedging my bets on the console versions
Not to mention the fact that all things being equal, I would likely buy the 360 version anyway because I personally find it easier to play FPS games with the 360 pad.

@20 Agreed
My PC should run it, but like you, not exactly where i would want it to be. Im sure this will be heavier on PCs than Crysis 2 will be. Usually the way it goes with id games. They usually dont build there games to be easy on the PCs. Example Hal-Life 2 vs Doom 3: Same year, Half-Life 2 max settings vs Doom 3 max settings. Half-Life 2 wins by a land slide and it didnt take much raw PC power but Doom 3 took quite a nice rig at the time to run.
I prefer the Ps3 pad
lol. Although im not too bad with the 360 pad either. After all, i did play on the 360 for 2yrs before switching my preference to PS3 (after MGS4)

Yeah fair point on the pad; my foster brother is the same – he began with the 360 pad and then went over to the PS3 pad after prolonged exposure to a number of PS3 titles.
In all fairness I prefer the PS3 pad in almost every regard, it’s just in the FPS’s my retarded crab hands can’t seem to use the thing properly
