Epic: “Anything in the Apple world is perfect”

infinityblade

Epic vice president Jay Wilbur has said that “anything in the Apple world is perfect,” while noting that “hardware fragmentation” in the Android space is a “really big issue”.

Speaking to The Slowdown, Wilbur demonstrated a build of the Epic Citadel tech demo running on a Galaxy S demo, and said that, “It’s on iOS first, and then once the iOS version is released then we’ll start considering Android.”

He added: “We’ve done some development on Android. That’s Epic Citadel running on Android … It runs really well and really fast. One of the problems with the Android marketplace is hardware fragmentation, that’s a really big issue. The other thing is marketplace fragmentation, there are so many different appstores out there.”

Wilbur contrasted Android’s openness with Apple’s single-source approach.

“Apple has very tight control. So anything in the Apple world is perfect. It’s just perfect. We like that, we like that a lot. We know that it’s just gonna work. Sometimes that’s not always the case in the Android marketplace,” he added.

Thanks, IGN.

No, Jay DID NOT “[express] doubts that Epic Games will move into Android development after the success of Infinity Blade on iDevices”.

What he actually said was “It’s on iOS first, and then once the iOS version is released then we’ll start considering Android.”

We’re already providing Android code to several licensees. Trendy Entertainment, an Unreal Engine 3 licensee shipped Dungeon Defenders. It is available in the Android Marketplace.

It’s sad, but he is damn right, hardware fragmentation is the biggest issue for a developer.

Yeah that makes a great way of thinking. People don’t need choices that’s fragmentation! This whole PC and Windows will never get traction with all this hardware fraction. Why doesn’t everyone buy everything from one closed company controlled by one extreme micro-manager.

That is why Macs have never been 10% they just take multiples of the profit from their higher then average profits from them kicking you in the head in their over priced products.

By the way I am a Linux guy and I laugh at all these stupid closed minded Apple lovers who are just evangelistic.

Any chairmen of the board should state the obvious: Hey stop being lazy and program for both platforms or lose more then half the market. Who needs profits when we you can program to one single phone.
