If the YouTube counter is anything to go by, you’ve probably already seen Beyond Black Mesa, the Half-life fan film. In which case you probably want to watch it again – or you’re sadly behind the times. Everybody through the jump!

Filmed over two years by a group of friends with a Canon HV20 and $1,200 budget, Beyond Black Mesa tells the story of Adrian Shephard and his comrades blowing stuff up.

More info is found on the film’s website, but all you really need to know is that it’s astoundingly gorgeous. Check it out below.

Thanks, RPS.

    I’ll be honest, not one of the best HL fan made shorts I’ve ever seen.

    I could forgive a lot of the crap in it (the head-crabless zombies, taking cover behind a wooden pallet base from 5 SMG shooters, riiiiight) if it wasn’t for the fact they used the name of Adrian Shepard. Shepard deserves better than that. Plus, who drops the nade that far away? at least wait until you’re going to cause maximum damage if you’re suiciding out. The real Shepard would not countenance such poor nade work.

    Well, taken for what it is, it’s not half bad I think!

    It wasn’t as good as Escape From City 17.

    And why did it have L4D style zombies? Cool for a movie and all, but what does that have to do with Half-Life?

    @sybs – could be a reference to the slew of HL2 zombie mods

    @5 it´s not exactly a Half-Life movie, more a movie in the Half-Life universe ;)

    @5 you criticize the use of zombies yet in Escape from City 17…the guy clearly mentions the problem of a lot of zombies over the radio

    But yeah I thought it was a pretty cool spin off of a Half-Life influenced short, plus they did it on a budget that small is pretty damn good…
