FFXIII-2 announced in Tokyo, to hit EU and US “next winter”

ffxiii-2

Square Enix Europe has just announced Final Fantasy XIII-2 will arrive “next winter” in the region following its announce this morning at the publisher’s Japanese event.

SCEA has confirmed the same time-frame for an American release on the US PS Blog.

Square’s also released a mock-up of what it expects to be the cover art for the game. Get that at RPG Site.

The game will also feature a ” a battle system which has evolved further since XIII” as well as a new story following on from FFXIII.

Motomu Toriyama, director of FFXIII, will direct the game again. Yoshinori Kitase will most likely take on the producer role once again.

A new character was also shown alongside Lightning, as was a new logo, as seen above.

It’ll be out in 2011 in Japan.

Last week, it was discovered that “finalfantasyxiii-2game.com” was registered by Square Enix.

But talk of a sequel began back in March 2010, when after FFXIII launched, Kitase and Toriyama admitted they’d be up for developing a sequel.

The trailer for FFXIII-2 will launch on Thursday on the game’s official website here. We did post it below (thanks, DoubleM), but we’ve removed it at Square’s request.

Get full details on everything else shown at the conference here.

sigh. Same people making it too. I have no hope for this game.

What’s the chances this game will be made from the “nearly 60 hours worth of content they cut from XIII”?

    #3 4 years ago
  4. StolenGlory

Heh good point Blerk. Another real question is also whether or not the 360 version will suck the colossal amounts of ass that the original did.

The answer is yes! Most likely. It’s out in 2011 in Japan at least.

I’m now curious as to the specific feedback they may or may not be working to on this.

Ignore the idiots complaining about it being linear or not liking X character, just write a DECENT, character-driven story, and there may still be hope for XIII.

    #15 4 years ago
  16. Johnny Cullen

I’m still to finish it, but XIII is a good game. Needless to say, I’m pumped.

    #16 4 years ago
  17. Aimless

I’m definitely interested in playing this. XIII‘s combat system was sublime and I really enjoyed the monster hunting of Gran Pulse, so if they just stitch together a few areas like that and weave an inoffensive story inbetween I’ll be happy.

Hopefully the majority of the game won’t be tutorials seeing as it’s a sequel, too.

    #17 4 years ago
  18. Dralen

I’m definitely going to give it a chance. Let’s just hope they take a lot of feedback from fans and make good use of it.

I loved FF13′s story and characters, but I hated the almost fully automated gameplay. I’m afraid this sequel is just more of the same, since they’ve cut out lotsa content from the original game to fit on 4 DVD’s.

    #22 4 years ago
  23. Deacon

The story sucked. As did most of the characters/development.

Maybe it’s just me but have SQenix really not had a good story to tell since FFX?

  32. Erthazus

I don’t have problem with different opinions. It’s just come on…. the STORY is not that bad, but dialogs are REALLY bad. It’s like actors don’t even try to read a script.

and too much Acronyms and initialisms like L’Cie, cocoon and etc. that after 10 hours you start to give a big F about.

The trailer appears to have a whole lot of gameplay footage, including combat scenes with swords and guns, a scene where you control a tank-like vehicle, a scene where you climb aboard a bipedal robot, a battle with a massive creature (this may be the combat scene from the TGS trailer), and a battle where Noctis wields his sword against a group of soldiers.

im 3/4 through ff13, and nothing in the game has impressed me. The graphics are never amazing, except some of the cutscenes, the art design is boring, low res textures, it looks like an early gen game. story is meh. God, gamers still care about FF? I feel sorry for the millions of fuck-wits that go out and buy these games based on the name alone.

The whole FF franchise is stale as fuck and has been for an age now.

To say the FF games are RPG’s is an insult to those developers who create “proper” RPG’s.

I’m not a big fan of squallrinoa-lightning. It feels like lightning is the illegitamate child of rinoa and squall. I honestly love fang wayyyyy more. I just wish she had that “mode” at the end of the game. In the game, the story was severely dull. The ending was the happiest was the ending but then it made me sad happy….

Sigh* I hope 13-2 does a better job.
