Iwata: “Pikmin is perfect for 3D”

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has dropped what may be a hint that we’re going to see a Pikmin 3D down the line in the latest Iwata Asks.

The feature was mainly based on 3DS, with Nintendo’s Shigeasto Itoi and Shigeru Miyamoto also involved.

During the course of the feature, Pikmin is mentioned, where the following conversation is dropped:

“Itoi: Well…you know…this is really… Oh, that’s Pikmin! Great!”
“Miyamoto: Doesn’t Pikmin look great?
“Iwata: It seems like Pikmin is perfect for 3D.
“Miyamoto: I like the way they scurry around.
“Itoi: Pikmin is a game with a peculiar 3D effect as if you’re getting down on hands and knees to look at something small. Man, I want one of these! I’ll buy one, Prez! How much is it going to cost me, Prez?”

Nothing on the Pikmin series has been announced for 3DS as yet.

The only new game coming being the still unseen Pikmin 3, which Miyamoto confirmed was still in development for Wii at E3 last June.

Read the full Iwata Asks here. It details how Nintendo’s 3D plans began, GameCube in 3D and more.

Thanks, GoNintendo.

i remember a teaser magazine advert for Pikmin 3 ages ago (or was that for Pikmin 2)

perhaps they changed development on it to turn it into a 3DS game

@1 It is, ironically enough, the perennial carrot on a stick for the hardcore. Actually releasing it would diminish its value.

    Edge Magazine May issue

although the advert was really vague, and everyone though it was for Pikmin 3…i don’t know what it ended up being

@4 The teaser was actually for their coverage of FIFA 10, if I remember rightly.

You put Pikmin 3 on the 3DS instead of the Wii and I will hunt whoever made the decision down and do unpleasant things to them. Pikmin is literally the only reason I still own a Wii.

Wii. 3DS. Not much difference really. Visually the game will be about the same on either platform i bet.
