Nintendo has announced it hit two Wii and DS sales milestones during 2010 in the US.

According to the company's internal sales figures, the DS line had sold more than 47 million in America since the original model's launch in November 2004 by the end of 2010.

In addition, Wii sold 7 million units in the US during it's third consecutive year at retail.

Nintendo said this was a first, as no other console in "the history of videogames" has accomplished this feat.

At of the close of 2010, Wii has sold more than 34 million units in the US alone.

“When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products,” said NOA's president Reggie Fils-Aime.

“When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”

Nintendo is set to release 3DS in the US and UK in March, and you can check out the latest shots of one - stolen from a Chinese assembly line - here.

3DS is out February 26 in Japan.
