LittleBigPlanet 2 hitting UK on January 21

SCEE confirmed over the Christmas break that LittleBigPlanet 2 has gone gold, and will release in the UK on January 21.

The Media Molecule platformer will release in mainland Europe on January 19 and in Australia and New Zealand on January 20.

LBP2 was due to launch near the end of last year, but was subsequently delayed into January.

Media Molecule tech boss Alex Evans told VG247 at EGE back in October that the delay was due to the fact that not all PS3s are connected to the internet.

"Like LittleBigPlanet, we will be supporting the game with patches, updates and whatever, but you have to realise right from the beginning that there are those people who don’t have online and that is why we decided it was the right decision to delay the game," he said.

"In the end, the main reason for it, though, was just that we played the game and in the end realised that we had to make the Blu-ray perfect. I don’t mean 100 percent perfect, but I just mean something we are proud of."

LBP2 raises the stakes from the original, allowing players to create full games instead of just levels.

A story demo is out now on the PS Store.
