EA’s updated the SSX website, revealing new details on the latest addition to the franchise, Deadly Descents.

The description says the Deadly Descents redefines the SSX franchise, “pitting riders versus both mountain and man.”

According to the site, “players will explore the story of a team who seek to be the first to descend the faces of the most treacherous mountain ranges on the planet. The team will travel the world to face the worst that Mother Nature can throw at them.

“From the peaks of the Himalayas, where the air is so thin that riders have to descend through the death zone at breakneck speeds to keep from blacking out, to the solid ice ranges of Antarctica, where a sunlit line is the only survival option when temperatures drop 50 degrees centigrade in the shade.”

Finally the website reveals “SSX: Deadly Descents the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.”

Check out the game’s first screens below. Trailer’s here.

I want crazy courses, crazy characters and crazy tricks from my SSX game… I don’t want ‘story’.

What a bullshit. This is not SSX… SSX is all about crazy tricks in the first place, colourful pallete (not this dark shit), fantastic courses (like pinball course from the first SSX!!!). SSX is not about story (LOL) or man vs man (EA give snowboarders guns and military perks!!!!!!).
Let’s hope they put original SSX on PSN and XBLA before this Shit Shit eXtrme will come.

Just not sure about this, hopefully they don’t take away what made SSX so awesome in the first place.

    It looks lame.

SSX died when they started moving away from proper tracks. I barely played Blur for Wii for an hour. There’s nothing fun about going down a hill with zero guidance.

SSX 1 is still the best game, and one of the best PS2 games in general.

Sounds terrible, exactly what SSX is not. But the gameplay may surprise.

Strange though how they decide to go all gritty after Need for Speed Hot Persuit clearly showed that people want what is fun about the original premise. No grit, but fun and color.
Same holds true for SSX, if EA paid attention.

Dissapointing :( I agree with 1. This isn’t SSX, it’s snowboarding with the SSX name on it. verrrrry dissapointed :( To much realism, even if it’s extreme. THis is not the SSX us fans were hoping for…

This looks radically different but if the final game is fun, who am I to complain?

No, this is going to be awesome! i love the way it looks, i know their going to through the old characters in it, and i read something a while back saying they were focusing on the crazy race style from the first 2 SSX’s, people are to quick to judge a 30second clip. wait for a full trailer, i’m willing to bet this is going to be fun as all hell. no snowboarder wears shoulder pads like that, i’m thinking this is going to be one of the new guys, kinda over the top.

We will be, when this fails and EA has to give SSX to Criterion to bring the series back to it’s roots, or the gameplay videos turn out to be amazing.

Nah it’ll be used as justification to bury the franchise forever. Perhaps this is just one side of the game and proper SSX tracks are the other side? /clutches at straws
