PS3 gets Firmware 3.55, adds nothing

Sony’s released Firmware 3.55 overnight for PS3.
The update is only a “security patch”, according to SCEA on the US PS Blog, and doesn’t add anything of actual importance in terms of services and what not.
You can enable the update by signing in to PSN.
And that’s it.

It is because of the talest Jailbreak security system.

I think we will see FW3.60 in the near future, possibly in the next few weeks. The reason I say this is that Sony are advertising ITV Player and Music Unlimited as part of their PS3 xmas campaign so that tells me that those apps will be added very soon. Maybe just via a store update or part of a larger firmware….

There’s a few tantalising rumours going about, that Sony are set to launch Google TV and Chrome browsers on PS3 in the new year. Now that would be one hell of a firmware update.

You know what would be good? Adding the 80 Gb version’s (MGS4 Bundle for instance) PlayStation 2 emulator for free and end with all this backwards compatibility crap once and for all. Have a team updating and fixing it and delivering a patch for games in each update Sony release for PlayStation 3.

The old PS3′s PS2 emulator needs hardware to work, they can’t just ‘add it’ as is. It’d need redeveloping to emulate the GPU in software.

Google Chrome browser? Please Sony, listen to your community! Anything is better than that PoS browser. If this is true, i hope Google make a PSP version as well.

Undocumented fix but this seems to have fixed broken 3D support on Philips 9705 series TV’s which did not work with PS3 in 3D properly until now.

I’m guessing Philips asked Sony to keep this one quiet, as Philips TV’s are riddled with bugs.
