Sony includes built-in PS2 with Bravia

Not a PS3. An actual PlayStation 2.
Sony’s launched a Bravia TV which includes a built-in PS2. How much? £199.
It’s a 22-incher, HD-ready at 720P and features support from YouTube, LoveFilm and BBC iPlayer.
It also comes with a PS2 controller. Brilliant.
It will also have four HDMI ports, a headphone slot, PC input slot, three USB sockets and more.
This is the ultimate TV. Buy it for Christmas, or something.
Thanks, EG.

That’s actually a very good price, and the PS2 is without a doubt the greatest console ever in my opinion, so this would not go unused in my house.

I need a new TV. I need a PS2 that’s convenient to play. If it has a memory card slot, I’m in.

That’s pretty ugly, but I imagine it’s ideal for a kid’s bedroom telly. TV, DVD player, PS2, all rolled into one. Nice idea, and pretty cheap too.

Conveniant for a kid’s bedroom. Maybe a dektop monitor too, but it’s too small for a lounge room or adult’s bedroom.

I could imagine console being built into tv sets in the future the same way dvd/BR players are, could also imagine Windows & Linux supporting custom OS for televisions, kind of like those monitors with the computer built inside, but not as powerful.

That actually amazing.
If I hadn’t already bought my Uni tv I would buy this for sure, perfect for dorms.

What a decent idea, I might get one. It would make a decent new monitor actually, and have the PS2.

@12, it’s resolution is sub-hd, wouldn’t use it for pc gaming, would be excellent for a non-gaming pc though.

This is super fantastic idea from Sony. I mean really. SOMEONE from console manufacturers started to do it finally.
But i thought they will start to do it with current gen or next gen.
and i thought Nintendo will do it first.
The only problem i have with this that it is not FUCKING LED. Why not?
@Crysis,
” it’s reoloution is sub-hd”
There is no point in 1080p with 22*

@14 Yeah thats what Id use it for, just normal use. I’m not really a PC gamer so it would be ideal.

I’d get one depending on how the PS2 games actually look on the telly.

@15, the pixel pitch is a lot smaller on monitors so the resolution is easily noticeable, i notice it on my 720p from 1/2mtr away but not my 1080p monitor from 1/2mtr away (both 22″), On a game like Crysis you can really see the difference.

@3 Two memory card slots by the look of it.
Im guessing the PS2 is accessed by the Bravia’s XMB, which would be ideal.

Quite a cool idea.
I’d like to see an official PC emulator and ROM store though.
Pretty please?

Really a good idea.
But like someone said I would want to see the game quality first. I recently tossed in Champions of Norrath into my BC PS3. It kind of hurt my eyes to be honest. So I got out my old PS2 and hooked it up to see if that was better? It was worse.
So I am guessing that most ps2 games are just going to be to jaggie to enjoying looking at. Then again i was using a 42 inch TV, a smaller 22inch one might look sharper.

@19, it’s Crysis, not PS2 console games…

I would really love this, but a 22 incher is just not big enough for upstairs. If they made one 10 inches bigger, I would step over old ladies to get one.

So PS2s are getting into games, are getting into Bluray discs as HD remastered games, are getting everywhere but less in the PSN as an official Backwards Emulator (and remember it DOES exist). Middle finger to Sony until they change their minds about this.

@25, we were talking about using it as a gaming pc monitor, that flew right by you didn’t it?
“it’s resolution is sub-hd, wouldn’t use it for pc gaming”
then you say:
“There is no point in 1080p with 22*”
Of all people you are the last guy i would expect to here that from about pc gaming. Using it to watch show/movies & play console games i would completely agree, but not as a pc monitor where you’re 2 ft away.

Sony could always do this with the PS3 as well. That woul be spectacular. I can see TV sales as well as PS3 sales rise simultaneously if they had their own TV range with different sizes and quality with the PS3 built in.
