Rumour: 343 Industries working on Halo: Combat Evolved remake

A remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is on the way from Microsoft for 360, according to a rumour in the new issue of GamesMaster.
In the next edition of the mag, which will have a blowout on the next Tomb Raider title, it claims that 343 Industries are working on a HD remake of the Bungie shooter that will run from Halo Reach’s engine.
The release, if true, is most likely to celebrate the IPs tenth anniversary: the original launched as a launch title for the first Xbox in March 2002.
A Halo 1 HD remake is then set to set the stage for a fully-fledged Halo 4.
343 took over the reigns of the Halo IP following the release of Reach in September, Bungie’s last attempt at the series.
Thanks, CVG.

Nice, but… I’m still not buying a 360 though…

So no new ideas, lets make it on the Reach engine and sell it with 60 bucks.
I understand HD remakes of the old games. Put 2-3 of them in one box and sell them for 39.99$
But this is a blatant milking on the not so good franchise for 60$
But what i am saying, if little fratboys will buy tons of this mediocre franchise in US anyway even for 100$
Unless the remake will be made from scratch without arcadish shooting mechanics, slow paced gameplay, lifeless characters and etc.

Like I’ve said before, Halo: CE remake on the Reach engine could be a great way for 343 Industries to taste Halo’s waters, get to know what worked for Halo in the first place and build experience for Halo4.
I can hardly wait!

@4 Not true at all. So many good games out there without remakes.

Get in!
If true this is fantastic news. Reach is definitely my favourite Halo, but it would be great to replay the original in the gorgeous Reach engine.

@6:
So far, we’ve had remakes on God of War, Sly Cooper and Prince of Persia, along with the announced Beyond Good and Evil, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, a couple of Oddworld games, the rumored Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell and now Halo.
Compare that to last generation, when we almost had none and you see what Anders means…

I’d love to see that. Halo CE may be fugly now, but it still stands well on its level design and combat.

These are just HD remakes.
Halo is not HD remake, it’s a huge remake on the REACH engine. It’s not a port. They are going to completely re-build the game from the scratch. (Unless they are going the easy way just porting all textures to Halo:Reach engine and sounds, voices)
HD remakes that you listed are just upscaling. Nothing to be amazed actually.
@10, “but it still stands well on its level design and combat.”
LOL.

@12, but what can i say? If i will say something, then thread will be full of delusional Halo fanboys.
Halo:CE has no level design. Just big maps with gigantic and generic textures all over them. With Copy-paste level design in most cases.
Combat? You mean that arcadish feel with guns that have no dispersion or it’s own feeling? Have you played at that time Half-Life, Counter-Strike or Unreal tournament? Of course not.
Thats it.

The PS3 remakes of PS2 titles are not just upscaling, they are rendering at the higher resolution – quite a big difference.
This is very good stuff. Regardless of your opinion on the games this isn’t a milking of a cash cow – well not just that
– it’s good fan service, something the Halo series has already demonstrated through the game features and evolution so far.

So, just to be clear, an HD remake is not a remake in your book after all?
Note: tip is in your term “HD remakes”.

Very pathetic if true. Why not focus on expanding M$ library so it’ll look more respectable rather than try to release 10 Halo games in one generation.
Sad how SONY is the only one making new genres and new IP’s every year and they still get spit on.

Basically it’s upscaling and yeah it’s a milking material, but at least for 39.99$ or cheaper.
There is nothing better except of some HD on it. (some games like Prince Of Persia looks even worse)
@15,
PP
@17, of course remakes, but not in the big scale. They are here so they can play better on the Wide screen.
HD is just a resolution.

This is a dream game… I hope the rumor is true. The lot of you clueless turd burglars who rip Halo have no idea what kind of phenomenon this game was. Everyone played it. It still holds up too. One of the true classics of the past few gens.

@Madeira, “Everyone played it.”
Played only people who never played Unreal Tournament, Counter-Strike, Half-Lifes, Quakes and other FPS’s before.
It’s only classic in console space.

Oh and btw theres nothing wrong with making a remake….its the fact that we have already had 4 new Halo games this gen….hence no need for this nonsense. So please don’t use the well SONY is doing a bunch of HD remakes…..
Yea….I don’t think theres been 4 new sly cooper games this gen. Nor 4 new God of War games either. You see my point people (XBOTS). For them to keep cashing in on the same franchise year after year shows they have no integrity and as a consumer you should want to invest in growth of your platform of choice.

@24 They are investing in the growth of their platform, 2 & a half million of them bought a eyet… Sorry… Kinnect. Now they can play HD remake of Wii games *trollface on!*

By the same logic TEA, we’ve already had three Ratchet & Clank games and two Resistance / Motorstorm games, with a third game for both coming next year; not to mention the rumored third Uncharted…
Does Sony’s integrity stop at three?

this is obviously bullshit but i hope its true though cause the first halo was such a good game it deserve a total remake not some shitty HD or they could make a game which is like halo combat cause reach just failed

Ha! Well played.
Lets face it, they’re probably struggling for ideas on how to top 3 and Reach now Bungie have moved on. Re-releasing a classic is bound to sell a bucket load for them, without much grief.

@jonFE you clearly didn’t see my point. Halo combat evolved was a last gen game from a last gen system. Ratchet future is a next get game from a last gen system that continues the story line of the ratchet universe. Insomniac didn’t go back and say hey lets redo the first Ratchet with the same story line on PS3. Its a totally different thing.
Halo evolved is shit we’ve already played last gen which isn’t that far back. If you can’t see the logic in why this is a desperate attempt for M$ to have another Halo ready for holiday 2011 then you are a blind fool and please remove your head from Greenburgs ass. As a matter of fact you not understanding what I said in #24 shows you’re about 13 or in your mid 30s living home with mommy and can’t grip the realization that its not cool to be in your 30s still living at your parents house
How you completely miss the point in #24 is mind boggling and you’re one of the idiots here daily trying to make a name for yourself with retarded responses like that. I feel stupid for even replying to that nonsense. Go play your Halo for the millionth time and look forward to Halo 2 HD remake holiday 2012…..followed by Halo 3 HD remake launch title for the XBOX720

pft I would rather have a brand new Halo
I just finished Halo again the other month there on PC @ 1920*1080 and it still holds its own against other shooters. And if you remake Halo then you really need to do a Halo 2 remake aswell, all I really want is a brand spanking new one so that 343 can show us what its made of.
