3D "a new creative medium," says Hocking

SCEE 3D boss Mick Hocking has told attendees at Develop Liverpool the upcoming tech is "a new creative medium" for the industry.

Hocking made his remarks in a keynote speech at the event yesterday.

"Doing things like the way we've used Move combined with 3D in Tumble makes a game more natural and more accessible, which will be great for welcoming more people to your games," he said.

"3D is not just about adding depth to a game; its a new creative medium with which game developers can work."

Hocking also hit back at claims that 3D was just a gimmick that offered very little in terms of gameplay.

"With 3D, unlike other mediums film and TV, we can interact and innovate in far more ways."

He added: "I really would urge you to start converting your game into 3D now. We're here to help you and can help with training."

Hocking said earlier in the week that 50 titles were being made for 3D on PS3, 20 of which are internal from Sony.

Thanks, Develop.
