Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit reviews get rounded-up – nice scores all around

nfshp

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit hit the US on Tuesday, and hits Europe today, so we thought we’d round-up some reviews for you.

Get the list below.

Looks like the game has been received well, with Joystiq, GamesRadar, PlayStation: The Official Magazine, and the Guardian giving it perfect scores.  This should make Criterion and EA very pleased.

As usual if you have any scores to add, do so in the comments. Watch the launch trailer for it here.

@1 – they’re totally different types of game. There’s room for both.

@1 You can’t compare those 2 games.
GT5 gfx will be better, but I see myself enjoying this more than GT5

It’s such a great game, honestly. I’ve been playing non stop since my review copy arrived.

GameRant is 4.5/5 not 4.5/10…

I almost enjoyed this when the demos were out. However, i absolutely hate that “massive oversteer” style that all NFS games seem to have. As a result, i will not be getting this.

Autolog and the whole Speedwall amongst your friends seems real cool though.

All I can add is that this game will be under our tree come xmass morning, GT5 won’t be. GT5, if I get it will be a long time coming, maybe bargin bin or when there is a lul in games. It just doesn’t offer the same kind of fun that can be had with NFSHP.

Of course all of that is just my two cents, your milage may vary.

Is anyone else as mind blown as me about these scores. just never thought need for speed would reach this height again.

kinda worry’s me though. if criterion is the best need for speed Dev, EA might start forgetting about burnout and get them making this for life.

I think everybody was just waiting for NFS to dump the stupid underground shit and get it’s groove back. And it has, gloriously.

Autolog – reminding you how crap you really are, everytime you sign in. Thanks.

No, but really, I’ll be picking this up over the weekend, it’ll be light relief from the more serious GT5. Having said that, I’ve played the single player and online demos, it really doesn’t feel like a Criterion game, I was hoping for more of a Burnout feel, alas, it’s not to be.

Roll on Burnout 7.

Expecting every game Criterion make to be like Burnout is a little strange.
Burnout is Burnout, Need For Speed is something else. But the quality is definetly there.

wouldn’t play those pseudo sims lika Forza or GT if they paid me. arcade ones are the only racing games I enjoy playing myself.

what I really didn’t like with this one though, was the way you take down the racers, when playing as the er, pigs. it was more fun in the old Hot Pursuits.. the road blocks were rather lame as well.

lol at official xbox magazine. No wonder why they gave it a low score, they want everyone buying the upcoming fortza stig pack.

Man, this game is the fucking bollocks :) I love criterion’s attention to detail. Makes every other dev look like rank fucking amateurs. Long may they reign, I’m back off to seacrest

Been playing this game since release and looking at those scores…. I would have to say all those people were paid off to give it a higher score. Just another shit NFS in my books.

I had a small whack at it last night and spent more time on it this morning and, quite frankly…

I. LOVE. IT.

I want to marry you Criterion. Seriously, I do.

Best racer I’ve played in donkeys, maybe ever. Love it.

I really need to check this out soon. This will balance out perfectly the hours I’ll be wacking into GT5.

I LOVED Burnout Paradise, I have high hopes for this.

I think I’ll be picking this up when I get paid next week, GT5 can wait until Christmas now. I’ve waited long enough for it, I’m sure I can go another month or two…

I’ll pick this up when the prices go down (which it will before Christmas as based on most retailers charts COD, AC:B, Just Dance 2 and others are outselling this). I mean honestly only the major titles don’t drop in price this fast and though not a fan of the VD sounding CODBLOPS (that’s a terrible hashtag), that and GT5 are probably two titles that won’t see a ridiculous pricedrop before Christmas.

For instance New Vegas was 13.99 at gameplay yesterday for the PC and 22.99 for the consoles (it’s 16.99 and 24.99 at most others and gameplay’s sold out of stock). Collector’s ed of SW:TFU2 went for £22.99/23.99 yesterday
There’s a lot of titles coming out at retailers that most of them will drop ridiculously.
PC titles that aren’t price dropping so far are Civ5 and SC2 and soon WoW:Cataclysm (for those interested).
Castlevania is between 17.99 and 19.99 right now Enslaved about the same.
I’m pretty sure NFSHP will hit the sub-25 mark before Christmas, Waiting a few weeks isn’t a bad thing (since there’s no retail releases post the new Donkey Kong and Cataclysm :) )
Today’s Deal is probably Vanquish at 19.85 at Shopto.

I think we’ll need a deal of the day thread considering things will drop ridiculously at the moment and it’s a daily thing (yesterday mymemory were selling Epic Mickey for £21.99).

Rented a copy today. So far, not massively blow away by it, but it is fun none the less. Looks good too.
