In-game Minecraft CPU now available for download

You wanted a blocky, slow computer in your Minecraft. And here it is.
After movies emerging of people having created working CPUs and ALUs in Minecraft, Joystiq’s reporting that anyone can now download a CPU and take a gander at its block-based innards. Get the save file here.
The download includes a text file which tells you how to operate the machine with its various lever. Handy.
Do it. Why not?

What is the purpose of this?
And how was a functioning CPU created with blocks?

The red lines are wires that can hold an on or off state, there’s guides on how to build logic gates here:

The CPU wont be useful for anything aside a bit of maths as its very basic and slow but its very impressive that he’s managed to put this together and I would imagine he’s probably learnt a lot. I’ve never heard of anyone doing this before. Why do it? Because he can!
Heres a video in which he explains some of how it works:

well i built a basic calculator with and and or gates, but this has far more appeal.

I remember when the same was achieved in LittleBigPlanet.
The ‘Create Your Own…’ genre is great for this.
