Reggie says there’s no need for Wii 2 in 2011

NOA’s Reggie Fils-Aime has said there’s isn’t a need for new Nintendo console at this point in the game, and once the installed base for Wii reaches 45 million in the US, he’ll be more than pleased to chat about “next generation”.
Speaking with Kotaku after his talk during the BMO Capital Markets 18th Annual Digital Entertainment Conference in New York this week, Reggie showed a chart indicating Wii sold 23 percent faster than PS2 during the same amount of time. He also admitted sales have slowed a bit during Wii’s third year on the market, but you can’t argues with over 30 million units sitting in home across America.
“As we sit here today we’re saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell,” he said. “After we’ve reached an installed base of 45 million here in the US, we can have a conversation about the next generation.”
During his presentation at the conference, Reggie told attendees that the “holidays are more important to Nintendo than to other manufacturers” and the firm has a “distinct edge” when it comes to gift-giving due to brand recognition.
He also said DS and Wii were first and second place in the US with and installed base of 43.1 million and 30.4 million, respectively, Xbox 360 in third with 21.9 million, PSP next with an installed base of 17.7 million, and PS3 last with 13.5 million.

I hope to NEVER see a “Wii 2″.
Personally, I think Nintendo’s next system should be motion control optional, not required main focus, and should technically be more advanced than X360 and PS3 combined.
Nintendo has an opportunity this gen to blast out of the future next-gen gates way ahead of the competition. Hope they do it right this time…

I personally don’t think N has had a good hardware platform since SNES. Everything after that has been a let down and disappointment for me.

I don’t think N has any plans whatsoever.

NINTENDO is still busy counting it’s money from all the Wii and endless shovelware sales.
Why try harder, when countless numbers of pre-teens and soccer moms buys any piece of crap they churn out.

if nintendo were smart, theyd keep supporting the wii for years to come for the casuals, and release a nxt gen console aimed for the hard core gamers.

@6 …. NINTENDO has done very little in terms of game support for the Wii. It’s mostly shovelware and more shovelware.
They’ll release the occasional good Mario game once a year and that’s about it.
Like I said …. why try harder, when countless numbers of pre-teens and soccer moms buys any piece of crap they churn out.

Nintendo don’t have nearly as much money as Sony or MS to fall back on, so i expect Nintendo will mae a preactive strike in 2012 or 2013 to release the Nintendo console, & get the jump on the competetion, as did the 360, if MS spent a little more time studying it, maybe we would have never of heard of the RRoD. I just hope the next Nintendo won’t be called the wii 2 =\
