Fallout: New Vegas ships 5 million worldwide

falloutvegas2

Bethesda’s just announced $300 million has been raked in from the launch of Fallout: New Vegas, with 5 million units shipped worldwide.

Also announced was that the strategy guide for the Obisidan RPG was one of the top best-sellers on Amazon.

“We are delighted by the reception Fallout: New Vegas has received from fans around the world,” Bethesda president Vlatko Andonov said on the numbers.

“Despite the large launch quantities for this title, we have already received substantial re-orders from our retail partners, underscoring the tremendous popularity of this highly entertaining game. We believe Fallout: New Vegas will be the “must buy” title for gamers throughout the holiday season.”

Fallout: New Vegas launched back in October for PS3, 360 and PC and did well critically, but was lambasted for having serious bugs in the game.

Bethesda’s said a patch is on the way.

The company also said a while back it’s releasing 360-exclusive DLC to the RPG in time for christmas, although no details were given at the time or in today’s announcement.

Do you find that the bugs impact much on your enjoyment?

@3 When i started playing with 1st patch, they fixed a lot of bugs already. I had problem with one quest where i could not open the door in Vegas and with console command i fixed it myself.

Game is a freakin awesome even with bugs. Bugs didn’t do any impact on my enjoyment. I played already 96 hours and i’m going to play some more.

+ i will make pure diplomatic character next time, i want to finish ALL quests without killing anyone in the game and it is possible here, like it was possible in Fallout 2.

@3 Your experience may vary.

Personally I’ve played the 360 version for over 50 hours and had 2 crashes but run into 0 consequential bugs; the odd clipping issue and some temporary hiccups with the first-person gun model, that’s about it.

Other people have had companions disappear, be unable to enter areas without the game crashing, et cetera. The PC version is the most stable — it doesn’t have to wait on patches being certified — but there should be a new update for all three formats out in a week or two. You could always wait to see how that pans out, the game’s only going to get cheaper.

Although New Vegas shares the same engine its a different animal under the skin. Dare I say its a deeper game than FO3? Really fun, especially if you specialised in melee & get Knock Knock :D As for glitches & bugs… They add to the charm. Yeah when it freezes or stops the game I fucking hate it, but crazy shit happens too, like dogs floating in the sky for example. Plus the infinite caps glitch… :o

Been playing all weekend. The only part that I wish was a bit different would be the number of enemies. Combat seems to be a few enemies at a time then another few then another few… I would like to have more enemies at once for longer duration. Also I have found Karma and reputation don’t really mean much. I just kill everyone, wiping out towns seems to not hurt me or change the story much… sooooo why bother being nice to anyone :) Kill em all

Am i the only one that wish for old school fallout??

But yeah, this game is great and the writing is brilliant, compared to that horrible mess that was fallout 3.

“Wait, didn’t you think Fallout 3 was a load of shit, Erthazus?”

this is not the same game, it uses the same ENGINE and problems from that engine buy thats about it.

@16 nope, you are not the only one here.

Speaking of playing cards and Vegas.. I have NO CLUE how to play that Caravan game.. I’ve tried 3 times and actually managed to win twice. However, I was just pushing buttons and moving cards with no idea what to do… so I just don’t play it. I’m hoping by the time I actually get to the strip in Vegas it will have more mini-games than just Caravan.

I’m not 100% sure about it but from what i understand its the first person to build a pile of cards both between 21 and 26 that wins. The third pile acts as a sort of tie-breaker. Thats pretty much all i’ve managed to grasp of the game.

The rules are really poorly explained, the game could do with a tutorial and a help menu to tell you what cards do and the like (i can never remember what the queen does).

LOl… glad to see there are others.. I just select a card then move it around till it’s green. I dont’ understand the diff of putting a card next to another as opposed to underneath it… I’m just going to pass on the whole thing. I want the Craps table :)

Just finished the Platinum trophy. :) Haven’t had this much fun with an RPG since Deus Ex.

By the way, I noticed something in regards to possible future DLC. When I was fumbling around the dam, at the end of the NCR story line, I found Colonel Moore. She was speaking as if the current battle ended some time ago. She mentioned that she had been promoted to brigadier general, and that the legion had fled far to the east.

I guess it’s either a glitch dialogue that didn’t make it into the full game, or DLC for the game will be based on the premise that the NCR won. :)

EDIT: Found a youtube video of the “glitch”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvPnc5UZ_D8&feature=related
(spoiler-ish)

I got the Intense Training for +1 Luck as one of my last perks. Then I got the implant for +1 Luck, and used the “Naughty Nightwear” while playing, which also gives +1 Luck.
This gave me a total of 9 Luck.

Then it wasn’t hard AT ALL. Just play blackjack, you’ll see. :D I thought this trophy was going to be pretty much impossible to get. Not so.
